Hurrah! I'm not the only one!

I had really looked forward to seeing the movie as I love Abba and I love musicals, but I thought it was so overrated and everything about it was hideous!

Then I get all the fans saying I should 'take it with a pinch of salt' and its 'just a bit of light hearted fun' blah blah blah blah! As if I'm a complete idiot that doesn't 'get' the movie - I mean what is there to get, it's hardly Shakespeare is it?!!

All I know is that I wanted to stick needles in my own eyes after the first 5 minutes and that didn't change for the duration!!
 
To all the people who are saying how bad the film is but then admit they haven't even see it, I'm sorry but you can't judge a film you haven't seen. And yes I have watched it. At first I was not really bothered but I went along to see it and was really glad I did. It was really light-hearted and didn't take itself seriously. Julie Walters was just fantastic and so funny.
I really don't mind people saying they hated it and it's rubbish if they have actually seen it. But please don't comment on how bad it is if you've only seen the trailer.
 
I've never seen Pulp Fiction or Fight Club, but here goes:

"Pulp Fiction and Fight Club are shit. I've never seen them, and hope I never do, because both films are entire shit based on the fact that I think they're entire shit. I hope everyone who was ever involved with them die of cancer and AIRAB, prior to which they became sterile so could bear no oRABpring, and had had their houses repossessed".
 
I'd happily go and see the show in London where talented people sing (in tune) and dance every night, but not go and see a film where actors and actresses mime to a pre-recorded track they did in the recording studio and edited.
 
I avoided going to see the stage musical for all the reasons I'm sure that people here have avoided the movie.

I looked at the running time of the movie and agreed to go though.

You know what... it's actually all right. I ended up quite enjoying it. I'm not saying it thrilled me but the elderly cast do a grand job making the most of what is quite thin material. Brosnan, indeed, cannot sing a note but gamely took a role in a musical which we must admire and nobody seems to mind.

I liked the one-shot cameo from the Abba man playing the piano on the pier even though nobody else spotted it.

I think that the people who rubbish it here without seeing it are suffering from the old British disease of hating success. It may not be worth the success that it has had, but there's nothing offensive about it and certainly nothing to get upset about.
 
I was really looking forward to seeing it as well and with all the hype I was expecting it to be great, but sadly for me it wasn't. It was an okayish film, some parts were funny but on the whole nothing special. I would probably say it is one of the most overrated films I have ever seen. My friend wasn't very impressed either, neither were my mum and auntie when they went to see it.
 
i agree ...although this movie isnt for everyone....i think the critisisim of a minority is overdone!! if one looks on play/hmv reviews and many other sites about 8 out of ten people love it ...the other 20% hate it no in between ...for me it is a musical that shouldnt be taken too seriously ..its a bit of fun down to earth emotional funny unpolished cinema entertainment ..raw in its content but it has so many comic moments ...i thought it was brilliant one of my favourites unusually cos im normal into action films but at the end of the day over 10 million people in the uk have seen it and being the top grossing uk film of all time at over
 
Also I can never understand why people would buy the soundtrack to it. I've been an Abba fan for over 30 years and I would rather hear them singing their songs that Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan!
