They are doing a remake of The Omen which will be called The Omen 666 which is a direct remake of the original which is about the arrival of the Antichrist in the home of an unsuspecting family. John Moore will be directing the remake of The Omen and Dan McDermott is apparently updating the script to be set in the modern-day. It is set to start filming in October for release next year!

Considering what a flop Revelations was, this isn't a good idea.
In any case the music made a big contribution to the scare factor so unless they can re-use it or cover it, it's a non-starter.

Agreed. They are reaching new levels of innovation in American film, aren't they? They've worked out they are crap at remaking the japanese films, so now they are remaking their own.

Well they haven't started it yet - rushing could only make a bad idea worse. Omen 666 sounRAB like the title of a film that is meant to come out in 2006 anyway. It's good for marketing as is the Halloween launch date. Would be interesting if the Evil Dead remake went up against it.

What an utter waste of time. The original cannot be improved upon (in my opinion) so why bother even trying? His re-make of TFOTP was utter dross compared to the original.

This also confirms that Hollywood has finally run out of original ideas for movies.

What next - a live action re-make of Toy Story starring Bruce Willis? Brief Encounter with Angelina Jolie shagging the brains out of both the original story and some B-list male actor?

Piffle

I don't really think it's necessary to re-do The Omen.

Mind you, horror remakes are not always bad. I saw the Japanese version of The Grudge on Film Four the other night and I didn't think it was as good as the remake, but maybe that's because I'd seen the new version and I knew more or less what to expect.

Still really creepy, though, especially the little boy, Toshio.

The Omen remake seems to be going ahead as it is being reported that Liev Schreiber and Julia Stiles are going to be cast in the roles played by Gregory Peck and Lee Remick in the original!
The release date for The Omen remake is going to be 06/06/06 which is no surprise at all!
