Omega 3 versus Cortisone injections: thoughts?

Hi, I have a kind of nice dilemma. Do you have any thoughts?

I have just started taking high dosage Omega 3 and have experienced immediate and marked alleviation of chronic lower back pain.

I am booked for a Cortisone injection in L4-5, L5-S1 joints early next week.

I am now seriously considering cancelling the appointment.

I started taking a lower dose of Omega 3 a few weeks ago. I ran out and didn't take any for a couple of days. In that time my back pain flared. Yesterday, I bought high strength liquid fish oil. Yesterday and today I've had an amazing improvement. Of course, it could be just coincidence but nothing has reduced the pain to this extent for a long while, although there is the odd day here or there that it's better.

I've had the appointment for injections booked for a while because it was getting too bad to sit for hours for work. Would you cancel and see how it goes?

Please let us know how the Omega 3 goes as anything that helps is worth trying but I am a little sceptical. But I would try it if it is any good. I have only used low dose with little effect.

I certainly will let you know. I should say that from an MRI, there is nothing structurally too bad, just some fairly typical degeneration for my age.

If my pain levels remain as low as they are today for a week, I will have very little doubt that Omega 3 did it for me. I'm an academic and researcher and am sceptical of most things. However, my cousin looked into Omega 3 for inflammation in Crohn's and the research is encouraging. I'm a gret believer that we're meant to have Omega 3 and that for many of us, our diets are depleted of it. That's particularly true for me given I eat little fish.

I will let you know if the effect is sustained for me.

If you've found something that helps couldn't you always rebook the appointment, if needed? I always keep the more heavy-duty treatments for a last resort..

I was just starting to think that is probably the best option. I agree on keeping more heavy-duty treatments as a last resort. It's the first injection I've had so I'm not sure on re-booking but presumably it wouldn't be an issue. Thanks very much for posing the question.
