Olympics in Bangkok?

I was going through the bids of the 2008 Olympics and noticed Bangkok was on the shot list....

I am curious...how would Thailand make an Olympics in Bangkok viable? It just seems to me with the heat, traffic (even with the new highway), etc, it wouldn't be the best idea to have the Olympics there. Of course I only visit, don't live there....so there must've been plans to make this possible.

So...how is Bangkok a good destination for the Olympics?
You're right, it didn't make the short list, but did submit an application, apologize for my miswording...nonetheless, still curious as to how Thailand planned to make this possible

heat and traffic bad? That didn't keep them from giving the Olympics to Beijing - I have LIVED there and know how hot it is in August and how bad the traffic is always.

If Beijing is viable, then certainly Bangkok is, too.

no no way as thailand is a very hot climate country, olympics is out of the question in thailand.i think there must be a printing mistake.

Thailand have bid for the Olympics although it is unlikely they will make get in a near foreseeable future.
However... Thailand is trying hard to make infra structure viable.
BKK now have a subway system now but I don't think even that will be able to handle the amount of people for the Olympics. The problem is SPACE. The pollution is less of a problem than Beijing.

There are enough sporting venues to cater for the Olympics - if they move some of the competitions out to the outer cities. Thailand hosted MANY big sporting events in the past - but nothing as internationally big as the Olympics.

But there are other issues which Thailand will have to work on to get anywhere good enough to be on the short list.
Security is ONE main issue.

Hope this answered some of your questions.

I'm sorry to dispute you but the information I have is that Bangkok did not make the short list. See web site below. I would be suprised if Thailand could hold the Olympics here also.
