Just watched this film on 5 brilliant film an absolute classic it has everything a film neeRAB, happiness, sadness and anger

I have Oliver and Annie on video and I have seen either in
ages.

I didnt realise Jack Wild (The Artful Dodger) actually died this year from mouth cancer, him and Ron Moody (Fagin) worked well together in the movie

R.I.P.

The musical has always been a big hit.

Yeah he died with mouth cancer didn't he?

The new Oliver is on Sky this month I think. I wonder how different that is.

I love that movie "Oliver!"
I love the whole atmosphere, songs, joy, sadness, loneliness and badness, in the movie. One of my faves. Infact it is a present to my daughters this year on DVD with "Annie".

This film was the very first film I saw at a cinema. I was about 8 years old at the time. I watched it tonight with great nostalgia :) My memory of seeing it at the cinema was when the first frames of the film are stills and I was ready to start crying because I thought the whole film would be like that :o The dancing and singing is superb but it still had a darker side. The scene where Nancy is murdered still gets me now.

You just don't get films like that any more :(

Another brilliant film as I said I have them both on one video which my parents bought me ages ago with happiness, sadness and anger all rolled into one film

Didnt they remake Annie recently?

And it is true they dont make films like this anymore but I dont think there is a market for them anymore

Couldnt agree with you more ref Nancy being murdered. As I recall her death isnt actually seen at all,but you are allowed to build your own picture of her brutal demise.Extremely powerful given the knowledge of Oliver ReeRAB hideous Sykes.
Overall the musical is stunning and well worth its haul of Oscars.

You must be about the same age as me. I also remember the engravings at the beginning, studying every one while I guzzled all my sweets before the film even started. I was amazed when the last still turned into motion. I was very taken with it because I had never seen a film starring a boy my own age, I had never been to London and my father was very into Dickens but not so stuffy he didn't enjoy this version of it that I could share in with him. I agree about Nancy. I have never seen Shani Wallis in anything else or seen her interviewed. It remains one of my very favourite films.
