Olive, The Other Reindeer - Talkback

Oops. My mistake. That's weird how I didn't notice the five year difference, but maybe I was just noticing the more recent posts. Oh well. I'll just see when CN will air the special again. Why was this five-year-old thread bumped, instead of actually making a new thread?

Because a Mod bumped it because it was airing on a major network again(Althoguh CN prolly gets mroe viewers than MyNetworkTV)

One of my Top 5 fav XMAS Specials, And prolly my 2nd fav of non-Series related specials

I was able to catch this on Cartoon Network today. This Christmas special was very enjoyable it's plot felt so original. Olive saves Christmas from being ruined for everyone cause one of the reindeer gets injured. Olive is a rare case for me, since when do we have a female protagonist that's isn't a stereotype saving the day from ruin. Olive's strong sense of smell was a cool ability, I liked how it came in to play a lot during the adventure. Martini was funny too and good sidekick, I'm astounded they got away with having a character named, "Martini" a type of alcoholic drink, but I thought it was unique. I enjoyed their trip to the North Pole, and the many troubles they went through. Again, I found it strange we got what looked like a bar scene. I thought Olive's ability to Fly was strange, it looked more like Olive was being dragged not actually flying but, she was apparently. The songs in this special were enjoyable and seemed well thought out, defiantly not one of those half-baked songs we hear on a regular basis, such creative lyrics. Again, how were they allowed to show the,"Popah"(?) and getting a Popah cap for Christmas, thought religion was taboo. The bad guy really felt not evil but, misunderstood I am glad Olive gave him a good fight. Martini was a fun character, being a con-Penguin but, using his con abilities for good, sometimes. Fido the flea, was fun aswell, I mean a flea named, Fido after a dog that's a new. The special had a sizable amount of funny jokes not those boring overdone jokes we hear from most shows, like Olive being house broken. I'm glad Olive made everything alright and got her owner his gift. I couldn't help but giggle and be happy by the pun of the two main protagonist of this special's names, there,"Olive and Martini", alcohol anyone? This was fun, the chances of a sequel are slim but, this was very enjoyable. I'll try to catch this again next time it comes on. The ending song, just wow very nicely composed. This special was very nice.

Woah, huge necro post there, but yeah you are right! It's always nice to see a female taking the lead, you really don't see that much besides in live action movies for Christmas Specials in the most part. Anyway, it was nice to see this thread because I really didn't know Nick use to air this.

I love Christmas specials and every year I make sure to watch as many as I possibly can, but honestly, I have NEVER heard of Olive the Reindeer until I stumbled across it on CN the other day and after having watched it I can say that I was unimpressed. It just didn't click with me for whatever reason, I guess maybe it's because I'm comparing the show to Rudolph's Christmas special or something but it's just not stacking up, that's the only reason I can think of for not enjoying the program. I'll give it another shot next week when it airs again on Cartoon Network, maybe if I go back into it without the mentallity that "there is only one reindeer that matters, dammit!" then I will enjoy it a little more.

I DVR'ed this last week on a whim to add to the pile of Christmas movies we try to watch from the 1st through the 25th. Mom, sis, sis' boyfriend and I watched it together. We all thought it was cute and funny. The plot works, the songs work, the jokes work, the animation is distinctive and the voice acting fits.

I'm convinced that Martini is Skipper's brother, though... :D

I never much cared for this special. I'm not all saying it was bad, I just didn't enjoy it as much as I would have liked... I just felt so "meh" watching it. I do have to give it some credit for originality, but all in all that's it. not bad, but not really good either imo. It just didn't give me that warm fuzzy feeling i want in a christmas special.
