old ford trucks vs. old chevy trucks?

When you are talking about a truck that age you go by the condition of the individual trucks not the brand. Either on could be in pretty good shape or either one could be a piece of crap. As far as the mechanical part they are both easy to work on.

When they were new, they were comparable. As time goes by, you will probably see more chevy's. The biggest reason is that the engine mounting points and engine/ transmission interchangeability are better for the GM truck. Fords have different engine mounting and the engine transmission flange isn't as universal as the GM.

I have had 2 70's Chevys and 6 70's fords the reason is this the ford parts are easier and a lot cheaper then the Chevy parts. Now as for the engines yes the mounting is different but there are alot more surviving fords then chevys I actually love the look of a 71 Chevy but for every 1 of those I find I can find 10 77-79 fords.

Now better...
Well you are going to get ford buffs and chevy buffs answering this question. Personally I don't have a fav brand. Every vehicle has good and bad things.

What were you using it for?

If i wanted a lowered truck I would use a chevy they have better lines and look nicer lowered then fords.
Although fords have IFS they are lifted more then chevys(because there is more supply) they also have the 9" that can be built, is popular with racers, and has a nice aftermarket Fords also have a 44(or hp9") front which also has a nice aftermarket(mainly because of Jeep). Because of that they are more used off road and in general then Chevy's.
Hope this helps.
