Old films on Blu-Ray - worth it?

Have to disagree on that last one, I think The Battle of Britain looks fantastic on Blu Ray, though it has bizarre subtitling issues.
 
That is the part that makes my jaw drop. I was so worried they were going to bugger up the transfer but as soon as it goes into color the screen just erupts. I'm really not doing it justice but if you have a chance to see it please do.



Gone With The Wind is another good transfer. I got it for christmas and it appears to be some kind of directors cut as there are entire scenes in it that I just don't remember & I've seen that movie more times than I can count.
 
No. The opening sequences were in black & white but then the film blossomed into colour when Dorothy was transported.

It's A Wonderful Life was colourised, something I usually despise. But it's done so brilliantly on the Blu Ray that one really can't complain. The Blu Ray contains both the colourised and b&w versions.
 
I thought it was a mixture of the two with the Oz sequeces filmed in Technicolor and the Kansas sequencies filmed in black and white. I could be wrong, though! lol
 
Watched Jason and the Argonauts on Bluray today.
The process shots are highlighted by the extra definition and many scenes do not benefit in HD because of this but most of the film is beautiful to look at especially the clashing rocks scene with Neptune holding the rocks up as the Argo passes through.

Lots of extras too including 3 documentaries and 2 commentaries
 
OP Be warned it's not that easy to say ' do old films look great on Blu-Ray' because at the moment a lot of companies are putting out 'Rush Job' versions, that are pretty poor HD versions that look little better than the DVD release, but have been thrown out there by studios wanting to bag a quick sale on the new Blu-Ray format. These studios are then hoping to do a proper transfer a year or two down the line so they can call it the definitive version, and get people to pay for the movie again.

So often it's a minefield of classic movies that look excellent and use the full Blu-Ray Technology, and weak Rush Jobs that look poor and hastily done. So go to an independent review site before you buy.

amazing. 1939!!!!
Sad some films shot on digital dv just a few years ago will forever look worse than something shot in 1939!
