Old British children's films

Hey guys. I was just thinking recently about old British children's films that used to be shown in the 80's. They were in colour & from the 70's & 80's timeframe. I don't remember any of their names but I'm sure they were shown on BBC1 & I'm thinking during the summer afternoons.

I was wondering does anyone remember any of these films being shown? I don't think you never see anything like this on anymore.

Cheers

Not sure what films you mean.
However it did make me think about BBC TV Childrens programme Screen Test 1970-1984 they always used to show one film clip a week from the Childrens Film Foundation.
Ain't nostalgia Brilliant!

Thanks a million for the help! I was going to say that I recalled the films being shown on a Friday, BUT then I thought people would really think I was away with the fairies!

I done a quick Google of the above mentioned Childrens Film Foundation & I found this, turns out I was right!

Perhaps I will try to find some of the films, will take me back I'm sure. And you're right - nostalgia is brilliant!

Thank you luckyman & cunningham! Do you remember these films now, or for that matter - does anyone else? :)

I'm having an early night but will check them out tomorrow. I never saw it but in the very early 70's possibly 71, 72 there was a film called something like Robin Hood Junior that starred Keith Chegwin amongst others. It was not long before he got the job on Swap Shop.

I remember that film and it's absolutely one of my all time favourites - I own it on DVD. Has it really been deleted? That's the biggest tragedy of all time - why????!!!!! (howls into the wilderness).

I remember Chitty Chitty Bang Bang often showing on Bank Holidays when I was a child. That was a good film.

I have just gone and ordered The Amazing Mr Blunden on the back of this thread, I loved it as a child! I was also rather partial to the Gnome Mobile! - many happy afternoons watching those 2 films! Thank you for reminding me!!

1 Childrens Film Foundation film that most people remember is "Sammy's Super T-Shirt".I have this film on dvd but it's a VHS transfer.I also remember a CFF called "Glitterball"

There used to be 4 dvd's available that had 2 Childrens Film Foundation films on each of them. However it looks like they are now out of print.

The movies made by the Childrens Film Foundation were used for the saturday morning matiness in cinemas before saturday morning tv killed the matinees off.

Some of the films were released on dvd as Saturday Morning Pictures.

The BBC used to show them in the 70's and 80's.

The Amazing Mr Blunden is NOT a CFF movie.
It was made in 1972 by Hemdale films and was directed by Lionel Jeffries.

The UK dvd is deleted but its value has plummeted thanks to a German dvd release with an English soundtrack

one of my favourite childrens films, i cannot watch it without a cry i used to wish Blunden was my Grandad! Wish i had bought a copy of it now seems unlikely.

I remember Sammy's Super T-Shirt and also Digby, The Biggest Dog In The World from 1973 that I believe ITV showed every Christmas when I was a kid. I don't think it was a CFF though.

As for the pigeons, I believe this was part of the CFF logo. It's been that long since I've seen one, my memory isn't holding up !

I remember the one about the T-shirt!

I'm also sure there was one called "The Electric Eskimo."

And I have a memory of a character called "Sniffy Kemp" in one of them. Think he was a horrible teacher who kept sniffing really hard all the time?! Does this ring any bells for anyone?

And I also remember the gongs of the clock and the pigeons all flying up at the start of the films. Great days!!

If you haven't seen it I'd recommend Moondial

It wasn't a film but a Mini series from the late 80s however its available on Video as a edited film. It is also available on DVd but thats hard to find

BRILLIANT adaption of a BRILLIANT book.

One of the best Children's Film Foundation films is "Black Island" from 1978, about some kiRAB trapped on a wooded island with two villains, one of whom is played by Michael Elphick.
