Old Black and White Films

I didn't read through the whole thread, so maybe it was mentioned before, but yesterday on BBC2 was a documentary called "British film forever" showing clips from a number of British black and white movies. There was one I hadn't heard of before that looked interesting called Brighton Rock.
 
My all time favourite film has already been mentioned: Double Indemnity.

I also love It Should Happen to Me, It Always Rains on Sundays, Asphalt Jungle, Niagara, Philadelphia Story, Waterloo Bridge, Woman in a Dressing Gown, Dead of Night, Seance on a Wet Afternoon, Passport to Pimlico, Green for Danger, Canterbury Tales, Kind Hearts and Coronets, Strangers on a Train, Little Foxes, the Magnet, All about Eve, original Invasion of the Body Snatchers (and those Communist scare-type films generally), Rebecca, Lifeboat ... so many....
 
Ahh the Falcon series, pretty sure someone mentioned them at the time they came on.
Yes there were a bit too B movie and B movie doesn't mean bad either, just cheap to make.
I didn't mind them, women throwing themselves at him was a bit grating.

I suppose the modern version of B movie would be american made for TV stuff.
The thing is with a lot of made for TV stuff especially from the 80's is that it doesn't date well, the picture quality gives it away instantly maybe they'll look a little better as time goes by.

And the Spiral Staircase, The Haunting, Random Harvest, Arsenic and Old Lace, Ghost Train, Halfway House, Gaslight, Mrs Miniver....
 
Both already mentioned but I love Rebecca and Brief Encounter :) And most films with Cary Grant.

There's another one I've seen a few times but always forget the name of it. A woman is separated/divorced and works very hard to make money for her spoilt unappreaciative teenage daughter, and sets up her own restaurant which does really well. Oh so annoying I can't even remember who it stars. The title is the woman character's name.
And another one...
A woman is separated/divorced, maybe widowed (?), again she has a spoilt unappreaciative teenage daughter who runs off to be a dancer in a club as she is ashamed of her home life, or something. There's a housekeeper working for her & she has a daughter of the same age. Can't remember much more of it.

Now I'm typing about it, it's more annoying. Does anyone know? :mad:
 
How many black and white films have you actually seen out of curiosity?

P.S: I don't expect an exact figure btw, just a ball park estimation. :D
 
Yes, it really scared me when I saw it as a young child. I remember wanting to move to Australia because everyone everywhere else was already dead
