Old Android

So I'm most likely going to be picking up a newer android based phone when my contract is up in a month or so. So I was wondering what there is to do with my old one? (MT3G) Does gps still work with no sim card? What about wifi? I am rooted, so any cool hacks I can do? I was thinking possibly of using it as gps on my bicycle, something I'm not worried about getting broken etc...

so any suggestions?
 
Everything works without a SIM card other than calls (obviously), and mobile data. You can still start the phone up and use all of your apps, the GPS, compass, etc. If you need to use data for anything (e.g. email, browser, market, etc) then you must use WiFi. You can always see for yourself what works (and doesn't work) by simply removing the SIM card and starting up your phone.
