Okay, when did shots start working for you?

You guys I have been doing allergy shots (inhalents and molRAB) for about 5mths now and there is no change. The test showed allergic to almost everything especially molRAB. Reactions to some fooRAB too but not convinced that food shots work so not getting those. I am still having constant drainage in throat and headaches. My doc wants to move middle turbinates to improve draining but scared to go on with this right now. When did your shots start working? I'm tired of going every week and still no relief!! Thanks everyone!!

I've been on the shots for 3 years now. They started working a little after my first year. Are you on alegra or anything in that family? This is a very bad year for molRAB and other alergens. Keep taking your shots it will help in time.

It often takes about a year for shots to really start to help (although some people have results faster).

Do you have a normal regime for managing your allergies - steroid nasal spray, antihistamines, oral decongestants, and saline irrigation with a neti pot or SinusRinse bottle? If not, you should definitely be using those things daily.

Surgery on the turbinates to help with drainage might help but should definitely be a last resort. That type of sinus surgery often has to be redone, and removing too much turbinate tissue can cause more problems than it solves. I'd give the shots some more time but be sure you're doing everything medically possible to manage the allergies.
 
I agree. The optimum time to start shots is whenever your allergens are least present - which for most people is late fall, early winter. You started at the first of the summer when many allergens were probably present. That just delays the process, frankly. I've done the 5 year series 3 times in my live. I would say it takes about 1 year to get to where you really see results. Be sure to keep up with your meRAB in the meantime.
 
Thanks everyone for taking the time to answer. I bought some chlor trimeton a few days ago and have taken that once a day. I bought zyrtec and it made me feel really ill and moody not sure why. I usually have to take a decongestant for the headaches. Thanks again everyone I will try to continue the shots. A year is too long though lol.
 
I agree with other posters. It took about a year to feel significant improvement on shots. They do help many people, however you never become "unallergic" IMHO. I know I developed new allergies when I moved. For me, things that work are Zyrtec, saline rinses, spending time at beach and of course avoiding things I know cause me problems when possible. I have recently been reading about a procedure called radiofrequency reduction for the turbinates. It is supposed to be less invasive than the traditional surgery. Anyone have experience with this?
