I have heard that it's ok in some Asian cultures and in the Middle East but I am not sure if these are stereotypes. However, I can tell you that I travel a lot and whenever I have been at popular tourist spots like Paris, London, and Berlin, I have always encountered East Asians burping in public. In fact, in a crowded elevator in the Eiffel Tower this Asian guy behind me burped right into the back of my head. It smelled bad and I wanted to beat his ass.
