On an average Friday or Saturday evening, our department would make about thirty arrests for family violence (wife beaters). In eighteen months, we never arrested more than forty guys for family violence on any Friday or Saturday night, except once
One Friday night, a hometown boxing hero was on TV fighting for the championship - it was the biggest sports story to hit that city in 20 years. Everybody in town had parties and watched the fight. The night of the big boxing match, our department arrested over one hundred men for family violence. There is no question that boxing causes men to use violence on their wives.
