I few months ago I had a really big scare. Never knew I had asthma, had an attack and had to go to the hospital. Ever since I've been on a few different inhalers and did better for a little while. I am very athletic and go to the gym 6 days a week (I dont know if this makes a difference). I do smoke occassionally (when I drink) and yes, I know this is stupid so I've toned it down.

Recently I noticed that I cant breathe in very deep at all, its like my lungs stop expanding period. I can't get good deep breaths. It gets tight and hurts. Then today I realized that I have this cold feeling. I dont feel like I struggle to breathe, just when I try to take deep breaths i notice a huge diff.

If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it.

More info please - what meRAB and what frequency? And did you see a pulmonologist? Are you compilant about using your meRAB? Do you premedicate before cardio?

I just went to my family doctor. I take Flovent which is my maitenence inhaler, and pro air which is my emergency inhaler. I have not been taking flovent regularly but just got it refilled today, I've just been using proair. And I do not medicate before working out. Usually when I work out I am fine. Which inhaler would you recommend before working out? And if you know what would be causing me not being able to inhale all the way that would be great ;)

SounRAB like u need to stop smoking all together. Even if its once a week or even once a month. I have had asthma for almost 10 years. The best thing you can do is just take your flovent everyday at the same time if possible. Stay fit and maybe try getting on singulair and talk to your doctor. Yeah asthma sucks allot and stress can play a role in the quality of your breathing as well. Good Luck and reply back if anything gets better or worse.

OK, you need to see a pulmonologist to get a proper evaluation and get your meRAB regulated. Second, you need to use the Flovent EVERY DAY as prescribed. And you will have to use it - or whatwver other daily med may be out there in the future - every day for the rest of your life. To not do so renders the medication useless. So. what is causing your problem is that your asthma is not under complete control. You may even need a different med and that's why you need to see a pulmonologist.

AS for the albuterol (ProAir HFA rescue inhaler), most asthmatics have to medicate before cardio. If you can do it without, that's great. I can't. You need to talk with your pulmonologist for a plan if you have problems and need to premedicate.

Good luck.

If I even come around someone with smoke in their clothes, hair or breath, even if they had not smoked for hours, it bothers my asthma.

If you continue to smoke, despite your Asthma, you will continue to cause health problems and health risks to yourself, and others.
