Check and correct the following:
Is the radiator full and the coolant overflow bottle at the appropriate level?
Does the radiator fan come on when the engine is at the high end of the operating range?
Is the upper radiator hose very warm when the temp indicator first reaches operating range? If not the thermostat is stuck closed.
Is there debris blocking the radiator or are the fins almost all bent?
Is there a belt connected to the water pump and causing it to spin? (this is a good thing)
If you can see the coolant passages inside the radiator, are they blocked by silicate buildup?

first go with the thermostat, cheap and usually the problem. could also be a plugged radiator, crack in the engine , head gasket, or head. also check the coolant and oil both. and if you have air in the cooling system it will create an air bubble which would also cause overheating. cooling fan may not be coming on.
