If our country is all about "equal rights" then why do "minorities" have a better chance of getting a scholarship/financial aid that "non-minorities"? In this day in age I don't really think there are minorities. I don't think it's "equal" for someone who comes from a family that has the same amount of income has a better chance of getting help because of their skin color. Isn't that kind of racist? I think so.
Why are black americans called african-americans yet but whites, asians, indians are just americans or what ever color they are. My parents are from Germany and Ireland they came here and they are never called German-American or Irish-American like they REALLY are. They are just white or Caucasian to everyone. If you were born in American you are flat out an American. There is no African, German, Irish, Japanese-Americans... you are just an American. I don't call myself a German-Irish-American, I am a proud American, that's where I was born and that is what I am.

What is everyone else's opinions on this? And don't call me a racist because I'm not- I am questioning what is being called "equal" here in my country. So,if you are going to be rude and lash out, don't bother I'll just report you. This is for mature adults who can have adiscussionn rationally. I like hearing others opinions and looks on things.

Thanks to all.

I think that affirmative action is insulting and discriminatory. Basically, it says that because I am a bi-racial female I am incapable of competing in schools and the workplace. Bah. I am very capable and the US can take their AA and shove it. We all have the same basic opportunities to earn our way. If someone chooses not to do that, it's their own fault.

I'm not a very politically-correct kind of person so I don't use the phrase African-American unless I meet a person who has actually immigrated from Africa to here---but all of the people I've met who fit that description only want to be called "Americans". They're proud of their new country.
