OK, so why isn't the public screaming for alternative energy NOW?

USDA is the most bitchmade powerless organization ever.

Oh we detected that your meat contains dangerous toxins? Well we'll just inform you, because you're the private production company and we have no business telling you whether to issue a recall or not.

people only see alt. energy for the money aspect - "it will take 10 years to pay for itself? fuck that"

bottom line - we as a nation are morons

yeah. electricity is really tough to transport

you don't need to build mini reactors everywhere.

I think there is language in a bill somewhere mandating the Secretary of Agriculture to pursue sustainable farming research. There are definitely institutions and universities doing it. But I don't think it's as big yet as research on simply going down the same road were on now even farther.

because most of the people can't afford a new car even if they were manufactured tomorrow. They couldn't afford slightly used either. So it's going to be decades after they start hitting the market in mass before the average person is going to be able to get even a used one.

because most people realize that oil is used for so much more than just gasoline.

alternative energy is still a LOOOOOOOONG ways off from being viable as a large source of energy.

any other questions?

You mean most people don't, right?

That's why I half way support a ban on plastic bags. Sure it's shitty but the more we get away from petroleum based products, the closer we are to energy independence.

Because they aren't really worried about it being safe or not. They just oppose it because that's what you're "supposed to" do. There is no rational reason to oppose nuclear energy, people do it just because that's THE cause for environmental hippies.

Requires a gigantic economic investment.

In order to justify such an investment, the proposed infrastructure change needs to make sense.

Until you make it economically viable, you're not going to get cohesive approval to do it.

Look at how ridiculously contested Obama's healthcare bill was. That was healthcare, something a LOT more people care about than the environment. (should say care about enough to actually act on it).

Good luck.

Nuclear I dont think would ever be practical in a car or bus or something

large ocean liners and space ships hell yes though

Everyone talks about alternative energy, but they confuse energy for our cars with energy for electricity.

Show me how to power a vehicle with wind or solar... Never going to happen. There just isn't enough energy in those sources.
