Ok really, what is your opinion on Swine Flu? Exaggerated by the media or no?

Ok so apparently since there have been 7 confirmed deaths in mexico and like 1 in america the swine flu is a incredible concern. From the news I get, they have said there are over 100 deaths in Mexico, however, now they are saying that there are only 7 confirmed deaths linked to the virus. So to the people who believe the media aren't using fear tactics and exaggeration, I can prove some of my point in that statement. It's ok to be concerned, but at the moment I think it's actually being blown out of proportion. Disagree with me or no, I don't mind, It's good to hear other peoples opinions on the matter.

P.S Yes, I am concerned, just not panicked or terrified -.-
To random dude: not being cynical, I'm open minded. And there are 105 confirmed deaths in Mexico, but what of? Those aren't directly linked to the virus, only the other 7 were. So....yea
Also, since when does exaggerating mean lying? Get your dictionary out, mate.
 
There is a major media problem:
There is no premium these days on *checked* facts, but there is on being first, and on being most sensational,even if that means speculating.

We will know in about a week, and not before, whether this is a real and serious outbreak of influenza A H1N1 (mutated with some pig flu elements) or effectively a rehearsal for a major outbreak, which is bound to happen sooner or later.

The disproportion, ignoring all the other diseases people die of every day, just for one thing, is blatant.

I note a possible gathering storm.
If it turns out to be a massive storm I shall note that.
I can't get higher than "concern " either.
Panic or terror are never productive: why bother with them?
 
I honestly think that the media is blowing it out of proportion. I mean yes, we should be concerned but I don't think we should be panicking over it right now. But I do agree with Mikk also. We are due for a pandemic and this just might be the one that's been waiting to hit us!
 
Don't know but I am locked in the basement and not coming out for a long time. Some people say I am paranoid. But you can never be too safe.
 
Rather like how the bird flu went? Personally, I think the media get abit too excited about some things & tend to exaggerate a tad. I figure I don't come into contact with o/s travellers much so I should be okay.

ps I have bronchitis at the moment from hayfever & at shops today I was doing a great chesty cough & I swear people ran away from me! As a side question, my Doctor says I should get a Whooping Cough booster as I have 2 grandchildren aged 7 & 8 mths! Haven't heard anything of that yet.
 
Well, historically speaking, we are well overdue for a pandemic. They occur on a regular basis over time. Pandemics started well before "terrorists" (where is the terrorist threat anyway, I ask you?) but conspiracy theorists will be conspiracy theorists.....

I'm thinking that perhaps we should be concerned, as this may just be the pandemic of our era, that has been waiting to happen for some time now.
