OK, let's try to put this universal health care debate to rest! Do you get universal

health care? Are you from a country with Universal Health Care? If so, would you ever go to the US because you think you would receive better treatment?

Apparantly, a lot of Americans on here seem to think that universal health care sucks. I love our (Canada's) health care system, and would never trade it for a for profit one. Who is with me?
Blonde Bob, I have insurance, just as most Canadians who are employed do. It covers prescriptions, dental, vision care, travel insurance, psychiatric counseling, massages, chiropractor therapy, etc, etc. Our insurance is used differently here.

People travel away from UHC systems for specialized care. Basic care is great.

However, it's too expensive. You'll likely notice in the coming decade that user benefits (yours) will be reduced or taxes will go up. It's happening to all UHC systems. The bureaucracy grows...so does the cost.

Medicare should serve as a window into how the U.S. will handle the system -- it's currently 40 billion in debt and will be 20 trillion (with a T) in debt w/in 50 years unless....can you guess?
1. Cut user benefits
2. Raise taxes

There are a few reasons we shouldn't adopt UHC -- incompetence at the government level is probably the most compelling.

"Don't let them fool you. For the past 7 years, US Tax payers have FULLY financed FREE, UNIVERSAL health care for ALL Iraqi and Afghan citizens"

As you'd expect for a system-less group of people. It's not like they can call blue shield and get a policy.

*Obama proposes UHC -- not more competition in the market...nice try.

I was in the military and it's socialized to some degree and it sucked. I work in insurance and we see a ton of Canadians that pay for healthcare cause they don't want to rely on the govt. You have insurance agents in Canada that make a mil a year selling insurance... betcha didn't know that

I'm talking about private insurance, above and beyond what the govt offers. I think you are I are referring to two different things

Is that why they just flew Natasha Richardson from Canada to a hospital in New York? Your argument seems a little light-weight to me.

It's fine that you like it, maybe you don't know any different but we don't want it.

That is fine. All we ask is that you leave those of us that dont want it alone.

The only health care that I get is what I, personally, can pay for out of my wages and bank account, and I live in the U.S., and have done so all of my life. I'd rather keep it that way. God Bless you.

I'm glad you are satisified with your country's health care system, but that has no bearing on my personal belief that universal health care limits freedom of choice.

Don't let them fool you. For the past 7 years, US Tax payers have FULLY financed FREE, UNIVERSAL health care for ALL Iraqi and Afghan citizens. Not one peep from the 'anti-UHC' crowd. Not one protest or 'tea party' when Bush decided that Iraqis and Afghans deserved UHC, but the American people did not. WE paid for it....and there were NO complaints from the right. Now, we are not paying for it, and Obama is discussing NOT UHC, but simply more competition, more choice, which will result in lower prices for all Americans. Suddenly, choice and competition are 'socialist,' but Our tax dollars paying for Iraqis and Afghans free health care?? Never a problem.

IF OUR HEALTH SYSTEM IS SO BAD, THEN WHY DO PEOPLE FROM ALL OTHER THE WORLD COME HERE FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT.

No and it's clear how we feel about are people were the only western country that dose not. Profit is more important than people.

I live in Germany where they have universal health care. It's not uncommon to wait 2+ hours before seeing a doctor even if u have an appointment. The doctors I've been to Germany mostly didn't give a $hit about u, they were just trying to get as many through as possible. Since they get paid less per patient and r taxed highly, they can't take that much time for u. The doctors I've been to in the US were mostly nice and explained things and took some time to see u. Service was better in the US.

However, I would have an expensive operation done in Germany, not because I believe its gonna be done better over here, but because it's free. But that's the only reason.
