...lawrence in romeo and juliet.? i have to start by describing the friar, looking at the speech he made in his first scene, i also have to find out about elizabethan times, catholicism in particular, and use this to show the prominence of the friar's social position.

it only has to be brief, as this is only the introduction.

He is one of the reasons why Romeo does not kill himself in the middle of the story. He keeps the two from doing immature things. He is pretty much the main drive to the climax.
 
I'm confused. Do you know who Friar Lawrence is? If you don't he was the preacher who married Romeo and Juliet, but he was unwilling at first because Romeo basically fell in love with anyone anytime. Right before he fell in love with Juliet, he was "in love" with Rosaline. Sorry, this probably doesn't help much.
