... How do you start to care about what others think of you? In other words I sort of want to be the public-self-conscious type that cares a lot about what others think of them.

I know this sounds strange, but when I was shy like that before not only was I in better shape but I also did so much better in school (straight A's) and now that I'm going into a tough college in the fall, I want my old attitude back.

I guess you always want what you can't have but, how do I start to care about what others think of me again? Yes, I want to be self-conscious.

Idk .. like you can't force yourself to care, if you know on the inside that you really don't .. i mean you could always try to take what someone else says & try to take it personally ..but if you don't care, then you don't care ..

my problem is the exact opposite of yours, which is usually the case .. i try not to care what people say .. but the way that i work it out is by telling myself that i dont give a damn, even though i really know on the inside i do, its complicating xD

You can still get good grades with your new attitude. The main two things you have to change are the amount of time you spend on schoolwork and the amount of social interaction. It's all about balancing your time.

So, now that you don't have the fear of rejection by your peers/parents etc driving you, you've gotten a bit lazy? Because you've become confident enough in yourself that you don't need them to validate you? CONGRATULATIONS! You have officially accomplished but many people never do! Not giving a crap what everyone else thinks is a GREAT thing!!!

Personally I think you have it a little mixed up. If you base your motivations on what others think of you, you're bound to be let down eventually. Yes, being afraid of what others think can be a good motivator but maybe what you really need is to find a way to get there based on your own aspirations alone. You clearly have them because you're going to college and you want to better yourself...I just worry that if you "make" yourself more self-conscious it could be a recipe for disaster.

Be proud that you're where you are, and choose carefully what you allow to drive your motivation.
