You do realize that another oil company would just pick up the slack and continute to pump oil.....
 
Cant we just send someone down there to duct tape this shit and get it over with already?

My point is that there won't be any slack to pick up. BP isn't going anywhere.
 
Even if BP had to stop drilling, another company would come in and take their spot.

Gas prices wouldn't skyrocket.
 
I see your point. I'm starting to think that BP is too far in the pants of the federal government for there to be any real consequences for BP.
 
Werd, people in the oil industry aren't supervillians, they care just as much about the environment as... most of us
 
I love how this is suddenly about getting rid of BP from US waters. If you think any of the other oil companies run any differently, you're fucking high. BP was just the unlucky one. I know the other companies are not sitting around saying, ha ha BP, you got what's coming to you. They are running around in a panic, reviewing all their procedures, looking over their own existing and new wells, and probably burning up evidence in case they get called out on their own fuckups.

People jump from company to company in this business. Anyone who gets fired over this will have a job the next day at Shell, Murphy, or wherever. Nothing will change other than everyone changing their blow-out preventers.
 
I've been in the industry for five years, all of us are sick about what his happening down there, for a whole host of reasons, chief among them is the environment, at least the people I've talked with about it.

Oh yeah there is no doubt about that. Most big companies play both sides. Although BP gave larger amounts to democrats and Obama, they have a lot riding on cap/trade.
