Oil change "extra gasket" question -- C50

When removing the oil filter (K&N) during an oil change of my recently purchased, previously owned '06 C50, I found an "extra gasket". This gasket was between the normal mounting surface of a filter and the gasket in the K&N filter. At first it looked like this was a part of the normal mounting surface as it stayed on the bike when I took the filter off. However, when gently cleaning the mounting surface for the filter (which was now this strange gasket), the "extra gasket" came off exposing what would be the normal surface against which a filter would make contact. Well, my delimma is, is it supposed to be there or not. The new filter I purchased, a Suzuki brand product, is a normal appearing filter with the "round" gasket as an integral part of the filter. Is this "extra gasket" something that allows one to actually turn the filter 2 full turns after making contact ? :-)

Attached are a few pictures of the "extra gasket" to which I refer. If anyone knows the answer, I sure would appreciate it as the bike is sitting in the garage now with the drain plug out, the filter off, and all the used oil dripping into a pan. I'd sure like to put it back together right away.

Thanks

No, I'm pretty sure it is what "allows" the bike to leak oil after a change.

I'm not a 50 owner so I don't know for sure but there are a lot of them here and you should get a good answer pretty quick.

If it does turn out to be a mistake, you might bring it to the attention of the previous owner........if he still has any kind of a bike.

Thanks for the responses. The last "servicing" of the bike was by a dealership--althought a small "mom and pop" type dealership. And, there had been no leak, so I guess I'm lucky.

Thanks for the prompt replies -- I'm going out and finish the oil change, take it for a short ride, and see if things are ok.
