Official Thread: Nokia E5

I agree these devices arent meant o compete with the nexus ones, or iphone 4's of the world, they are full featured phones for cheap prices.
I do completely agree with the social networking comment.

Nice, hadn't seen this yet. After looking at the video I'm intrigued by the new homescreen and social network/chat integration. Finally more RAM as well.

But my E72 just destroys the Bold 9700 for speed using Opera. Wifi is it a tie. But 3G it is not even a contest. WAAAAY faster... Stupid Blackberry is still thinking about connecting to 3G and the E72 is done. Screen resolution is of course nicer on the Bold for browsing.

It really is the follow up to the E63.

Now they have a similar pair to what they had with E71 and E63 with the E72 and E5.

Price is good, and looks better (as usual) than the leaked spy pics. And yeah, the homescreen, social network integration etc. seem to be evolving to something fairly nice even in the non-TS/older Symbian devices. Of course its just a promo video that I've seen so far. :)

No "status alert" little indicators on the contact pics as far as I can see in this video.. :(

ps. To me the most significant announcement of today was C3, the S40 qwerty.. Euro 90!! Now that is REALLY cheap and could sell in massive numbers in many markets and certain segments, depending of course how good/bad the email/messaging experience really is. Btw, "Conversational SMS".. is that the (too) long awaited threaded messaging? :)

That's great and all but IMO it shouldn't be the focal selling point of a phone.

To me it's more of a bonus add in item, but it shouldn't be THE reason to buy the phone.

But as stated already, it's looking to be a budget phone with a solid battery...

Basically, most of the newer HTC handsets including the Nexus, Incredible, Evo, etc., some of which are available now, others, later this Summer.

The iPhone too, obviously, along with a few months window of the latest Blackberry Bold variation, before it drops to the mid-end due to price cuts.

Aside from the N900, most Nokia phones play in the mid-range. If you wanted to do a side to side comparison of a Nokia phone comparable to a Nexus or the coming Evo, I don't think you could. (**This would also include the availability and quality of applications. A 'mini-computer' as the N900 is called, without a wealth of applications, is a glorified feature phone.)

It's not necessarily a bad thing for Nokia; they're just opting not to spend their resources in the high end area and focusing on middle and lower end stuff. That's a totally legitimate business move. Most of us, including myself, may not like the low end devices, but I bet they sell well in, say, Singapore or the phone shops of Delhi.

No, home screen contact search for the phone contacts. The M4E directory look up is integrated well into the email app itself. As you type an address into the To: field it automatically search the phone contacts for matches as well as having an automatic link to search the server directory. On email I receive from work associates I can highlight the contact and have an option to call and it will go to the corporate directory and pull down the contacts information so that I can make the call. Pretty awesome. If only that functionality worked in the calendar.

I truly hope so...not a day goes by where I don't desire this from my N97 Mini. I think it's a must have feature in the smartphone-era.

Not to mention the phone looks cheap...but I guess it has to.

what defines highend, and if its specs and hardware then really iphone isnt there either , thats why im asking, is build quality high end, is apps high end ect... The only true high end phones in terms of screen resolution and ram and processor are probably the android phones, but then when it comes to camera and video they take a back seat so i was seriously asking, and again i say why would the bold aside from a nicer screen and 256 ram be any higher than a e72??????? :buddies:

neither should a big screen or threaded sms or facebook integration, but to some it is,it all depends on what field you are in and what are your needs, im blue collar and im out doors for a good 5 hrs, so battery life is huge for me because i dont have outlets accessible, if i did the battery life would be less of an issue, also screen legibilty in the sun is big for me as well as, rf and call quality and 1 handed use.
If i worked in doors then my requirements would change and so would my formfactor and needs. :buddies:

I agree... Other than the RAM and the few homescreen updates, my preference is the E72. Compass built in + front facing camera + better battery... Hope that a few of these updates trickle down to the E72 as well...
