Official Thread: Nokia E5

You do realize that Opera Mini 5 is available for both devices.

The flaw on the Blackberry can easily be remedied by software. The flaw on the Nokia cannot.

If you have seen Opera Mini on the BB 9700/9630/8900 at work, its no contest vs. Opera Mini on a QVGA screen. The screen on the BB actually has a higher pixel count than the iPhone, yet its all compressed into a tiny space. Its so sharp at first I could not believe I'm actually reading characters that small.

Another thing is that the BB's are now coming with 256mb of RAM as default, which is an advantage over heavy memory laden pages. I get browser errors on S60 often, primarily because the web page couldn't load. I don't get that even on the slow BB browser.

I think the E5 would make a great Twitterphone for the buck if you pair with Gravity. Or with Snaptu, you can get a great Google Reader mobile device for the buck.

I don't see any difference in the featureset between the E72 and this phone? It just seems like a refresh with better ram.

If you don't like the look, I'd assume this generation of nokia phones will have the same design cues.

a BB 9700 is $500+ unlocked....hardly an apples-apples comparison

if this were a subsidized phone, however, the 9700 wins every time

I ask if the BB 9700 is worth it as a mid to high end smartphone today, due to the rapidly shifting expectations in specs.

:befuddled :befuddled

For the price point all 3 devices are hard to beat, not for the high end user but i think very smart for nokia and marketshare and getting there devices to all markets at a good price point. :buddies:

It's a preference thing. I'm a big fan of Nokia and S60.

But as I said earlier "hopefully" there is more under the hood than an extended battery and a bunch of social media apps. I mean I charge my phone every night and I've done that with every cell phone I have ever had. (Waaay to many to list)

IMO a battery should not be the biggest selling point of the phone and I'll be awaiting what other major upgrades that this phone will have.

On the negative side I don't see why they went from 4 to 2 shortcut buttons.

& While I am a fan of Nokia and S60, there's no reason why their next high end e-phone (say the e73) can't have a better screen. (otherwise they will really have to climb out of a hole to catch up with the current Blackberry crop)... :(

Wisfull thinking :buddies:

"Today sees the unearthing of the Nokia E5, the latest addition to the Eseries stable, taking the best of the Nokia E71 and E72 and making something even better."

I think the E5 is perfect for younger people who has less money (or parents who are willing to spend less money on their mobiles). One cannot always assume that everyone has the deep pockets to buy the state of the art HTC phone here. Like the C6, this is a perfect gift phone by adults to their teen sons, daughters, nephews and nieces, assuming they would use social networking responsibly (no sexting and things like that).

The only problem of Nokia's approach is their own social networking package. They should have licensed Gravity from @janole and have it bundled with their social networking Symbian phones.

Yes, another minor update from the E71. Wonder if they are going back to the 369MHz ARM11 from the E72 to get that incredibly claimed battery life. Another 2.4" 320x240 QWERTY monoblock. No update to screen res and another release of S60 FP2, which honestly is the only really stable version to use on an E series device so it's not surprising.

BB 9700 is heading to the mid end right now. With a 600MHz CPU and 256mb of RAM with a screen resolution better than the iPhone with an optical trackpad, it would sit currently on the range where you expect a mid range Android phone (Hero/Legend class).

With the way things are changing so rapidly, I can't consider the 9700 high end right now. The margin shrink is hitting Blackberry which is why its stock getting hammered despite record sales.

Yes I know Opera Mini and Opera Mobile are available on Symbian and BB.

Sad that a so called High End BB needs a 3rd party app to fix its browser flaws. While a Nokia can work out of the box.

Yes I have seen Opera Mobile and Mini on the 9700. Your right Its absolutely nice due to its High Res screen, I'm not disputing that.

BB's are now coming in with 256MB as default.. Good for them. I think Nokia Eseries too.. Take a look at the E5 as an example and they don't even market it as a High End just looking at the price point.

You know I get browser errors on my S60 all the time too.. Damn my T-Mobile Unlocked 6600.. I never get it on my E72. :befuddled Almost threw a 9700 on the wall due to its slow crawling browser. :bash:

Listen.. My WinXP and Win7 machines keeps crashing.. Does that mean their bad OS? I do not think I have a bad H/W.. Oh Yes I know..
