*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia 6650 (RM-324 6650d-1bH) NAM 3G 850/1900

Seems like AT&T is doing this so people actually have a reason to buy something in their retail stores. Got phones from Nokia, SE, and Samsung in the past month and none came with anything but the wall charger. BTW I think I bought the same $5 cable from Hong Kong. I thought I was all set since I had a ton of mini-USB stuff, not noticing this phone had micro-USB. :doh


I'm rocking RedSpyro right now. The AT&T icons are crap but everything else looks pretty sweet.

Can you tether using Nokia PC Suite? I would think ATT would have nixed that from the start considering it's a 3G device...
 
I got this phone a few days ago and I love it (replaced my N75). I was trying to use a barcode scanner but failed. Nokia Barcode starts but is unstable. I sometimes get a lock on the barcode but it seems that when it actually reads the code it crashes immediately, more often I just point the camera to the barcode and it does nothing. I also tried UpCode, this program was much more stable (crashed only a few times) but it never gave me any indication that it was reading the codes, and the reticle it displayed was not centered on the image. I tried both QR codes and Datamatrix. This phone is not listed a supported for those two programs, btw.
 
Thanks for pointing us to the link! The buttons didn't annoy me as much as the (already limited) ROM memory used by the apps!

I had X-Plore already installed, but didn't know the jar/midp installation files existed in the ROM. Reinstalling them and specifying the memory card also conveniently removes them from ROM (not the installation files, but the installed folder). I have lots of free space on my card and don't see a reason to nuke them at all, but I'm happy to now have over 3MB extra of free memory (moved Diner Dash, Virtual Pool 3D, XM, MobiTV and possibly a couple of other small ATT apps - I didn't move Navigator, Banking, Weather, all of which I use, and didn't want to risk nuking my settings for!)

Going from 23ish free to 27ish free MB of RAM can make a lot of difference on this phone :)

I imagine I could nuke/transfer the jar/midp files as well but they don't add up to more than another MB or so.
 
I would sum it up differently. The 6650 is a keeper if you're looking to be introduced to S60 at the cheapest level, and don't mind a few slight limitations because of it.

If you're a power user, it ain't for you, but then again, with no WiFi, carrier-branding, a 2mp cam and 20MB of RAM, I'm not sure why you would have thought it was in the first place.
 
So far the only thing that really suck about the 6650 is the extra AT&T buttons above the keypad and the stupid push to talk button that you can't deactivate. You don't even need the GPS if you download googlemaps for free. Besides that it's a good phone.
 
has anyone figured out a way to de-brand all the att crap off?
i cant believe the 300kb ringtone restriction
that is just bs att money make scam right there..sigh

oh and does anyone know how to get a DIGITAL CLOCK instead of a damn analog
its so annoying
 
I wish I knew what it was, I'm looking for that code for the unlock function for the keypad. There are a whole bunch of "functions" that are not identified but I just don't have the time to try each one. What did you map the external PTT button to? I find that if I disable it I can no longer unlock the keypad if the flip is closed.

Basically through a back door it'll open up the OS, so you can install "patches" which are binary changes to executable files or dlls that alter their behavior (e.g. changes the call log from 30 days to 12 months).
There are a ton of patches out there now, check out: http://www.symbian-freak.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=38746 , however they don't all work on all S60 phones due to the customizations each type of phone has in their firmware, but for the most part they do.
You can also write your own "patch" if you are the reverse-engineering type of person :)

I've been following this thread, because I really want to find an S60 Nokia that a) I really like, and b) doesn't cost upwards of $500 and still doesn't have US 3G. I have a unlocked, debranded nokia 6263 as a backup phone, but my main weekend phone is still my Motorola Z9.

Having read the feedback here, might I humbly suggest that some of you that like the feature set of the 6650 consider the Z9.

a) With some very simple mods, Java is completely unlockable, and anything can be loaded. More importantly, the bloatware can be deleted :clapping: .

b) The build quality and RF are excellent. only phone I've owned that has better RF is my Q9.

c) GPS also works just fine with Google maps.

d) software is solid. No restarts, memory errors, lags.

Anyway...I will continue to hope that AT&T brings in the N85...or N96...or 6220 classic...or N79. :disappoin
 
No, I have the version with all the signatures, but I think it's the phone that's not letting me give it permission (the firmware of the phone or whatever)...
If it is S60 3rd edition then probably either the phones not supported yet or maybe it's a memory issue or something (although I'm thinking it's probably just not supported)... so that sux...
