I used to own a 3100 but it didn't survive the switch to the new Smartcard (after many tech support calls to bev, they suggested to buy a new one since it wouldn't upgrade to the new firmware version).

I'd like to know if going for the new 3200 is something that I should do or should I buy a 3100 once again. Any major add-ons?

I guess I feel fortunate with my 3200. It has worked flawlessly for the last couple of months - did freeze a few times before that which required a hard reboot (power off). Whatever the last software update was for it seems to have settled down my unit.

The procedure from the first call to Bell required that the Updates time (Menu-6-1-6) be set to the current time of day plus 10 minutes, set the transponder (Menu-6-1-1) to 13, and unplug the receiver and leave it that way for a couple of hours. I asked the tech person three times if he really meant for me to unplug the receiver and each time he insisted that unplugging the receiver was the correct concluding step. Nothing happened.

The procedure from the second call to Bell involved setting the transponder to 13 and then turning off the receiver with the remote. Nothing happened.

Still have software version 104 on the unit.

Calling Bell again.

My only problem with my 3200 had to do with the "Interactive" TV component. It's now been disabled with a software update. Now I don't have to do a hard reboot because someone accidentally hit the dreaded silver button on the remote. Since BEV basically relabels DishTV stuff you'd think they would have any kinks worked out before hand.

Well here we go again, just received replacement receiver. Hooked up and called BEV and lo and behold they sent one with V104 not 107 as I was told, so back on the phone for another 1/2 hr. Got a level 1 tech who tried but could not resolve, transferred to another tech who appoligized for the error by the whaerhouse and asked for my patience for 2 hrs. I reluctantly agreed (what other option do I have), we did some setting changes and is currently downloading.
I told her I am very upset with the incompancy of their people and said I would gladly cancel my contract if iI could. will let you know if the dl works.

I'm going to reset again and see what happens.

If not I'll just leave it on to avoid the lock up.

And call Bell.

Thanks! As long as I know it's not my new 3200 then I'm ok with it as I'm sure they will come out with new software soon that will make the caller ID work. :p

I received a call-back from BEV today and they are offering me a 4700 and a 3100 to replace my 3200 with a 2 month credit. This is not acceptable so looks like I'm going to court. The reason I went with a 3200 is because I only have room for one unit in the tv stand, and I can't put the second receiver in another room without ripping out walls/ceiling to re-cable / remove splitters.

I'm using a 3200 and just did my own installation of a dish at a second location. I cannot get signals from certain odd numbered transponders, like 11,17,21,and 23. On others I get 100% signal strength. Any ideas?

Well the dual tuner is a big addition. Not sure how stable the 3200 is though. They have stopped selling them for the time being........and they have only been around several months.

Mines been trying for 2 weeks to take the 108 download... so I was really happy today to see it was V108 today! Now ITV and caller ID are working for the first time since I got this 3200 receiver over a year ago!!!!!!!.:p

It has 2 tuners which is great for someone who wants to record to a vcr or dvd recorder. It has a new interface and menus. It does have some bugs that should be worked out in the next firmware release.

I had major issues with my 3200 for the longest time... It would lock ona channel and not change... It would say that it had changed but it never really did...
Also Tuner 1 would not have a signal and get stuck at transponder 1 when trying to aquire signal.... and it work like 2 hours previous.
I turned off Program updates and Guide Updates...
So I have to update the guide Manually every couple days... But have not had any problems with Tuner 1 not working since I did this! Or the channel get stuck...

So I am leaving it like this till I hear they have resolved any of the issues.... Great product if it worked..... I have it hooked up to my DVD recorder and TV!

Love it!

Mine is trying for 108 and locking up.

Spoke with BEV and they said tune both tuners to 198 before midnight and leave it off.

I'll check today when I get home.

Are you using RG59 cable? This will sometimes happen if you are using regular RG6 coax cable.

2 tuners? That is interesting...

Would it mean that I could use one tuner to watch a program in the living room for example and the other tuner could be used by someone else to watch a different program in another room?

If so, is the remote control a UHF type allowing going through the ceilings and walls?

wow my 3200 finally update to V104 today!!!! It's been trying to for the past 2 weeks. I would always find it hung while trying to take the update. It must have attempted the update 100 times before it finally got it right. Anyway the Caller ID is now working :p

There is new firmware coming for the 3200 in a couple of weeks. It appears to be a major upgrade which will repair most of the problems and enable the caller id and ITV. V104 is in a testing phase.

To force an update on the 3200, I find that if you slect "point dish" and the signal is displayed, then turn the receiver off, it then starts the update process within about 10 seconds. Leave the TV on so you can watch it's progress. This doesn't mean that it will take the update, but at least you can try to force it.

Also, noticed on the "point dish" screen that you can now select one of the two inputs to display the signal level. This option was greyed out in V103, but is now available in V104. No need to run back and forth between TV's #1 and #2 to check signal levels! What will they think of next? ;)
