SK[;8019682']I can't see any other posts here so thought I would post this. Please don't shout at me if it has :]

Nokia have added an the N80 to their Software Update page. I've personally not tried it yet but am sure theres a few out there that will jump at the chance.

Let me know if this resolves any of your problems please. I've got a few of my own and I own a very old version of the software due to getting the phone about a week after release.

lol so u want other people to be the guinea pigs but not you??

anyways there was a post about this..and yes it fixed many of the issues

SK[;8020171']Harsh. The post was meant to be informative not an attempt for people to test this updater and be "guinea pigs". Please don't respond which such an acusation when you have no idea.

Anyway I was about to update the post to say I have now tried the updater since I now have access to my USB cable which was at home. It procedes to tell me that there is no updated software for my phone. How is that so?

A *#0000# tells me...

Code:
V 3.0614.0.3
11-04-2006
RM-92
Nokia N80 (42.02)

Be happy, the tool seems to randomly kill phones and Nokia seems to have issues accepting any responsibility for it I would suggest staying away from the tool unless you have a local NSC that can fix it if it dies.

Really? Guess the Phoenix software isn't dead after all. I used it to update twice with no issues. Thought the online updater would be safer. Go figure.

Where did you hear that? I haven't seen any reports of N80s getting killed. I updated mine successfully. The only problem I've seen people talking about is that they can't successfully restore a backup made by PC Suite using the older firmware.

Exactly! I never knew unable to restore a backup was an issue..I've been trying, and then I finally gave up. However, I noticed that whenever I go to the voice commands menu, it keeps on saying voice system error. I have crippled the voice recognition on the phone. Any way to re-flash it?

I updated my N80 last week. Had some problems launching updater at the beginning til I turned off firewall and antivirus on my PC. Can't honestly say I can tell the diff. Good news is, my phone is still working. BTW, probably easier to back up your settings to your memory card instead of relying on PC suite.
PS: I have a SanDisk 2G miniSD in my N80 and never have any problems.

I did a memory card backup rather than a PC Suite backup after seeing the reported problems. I was able to restore the memory card backup with no problems. The only thing I lost was my Bluetooth pairings.

I tried the memory card backup, with a 2gb card, and it would keep on saying low memory. So I just thought PC suite was the way to go, and that didn't work...while crippling voice recognition and dialing.

Even when I go to the menu and restore original settings to default, it seems like something is corrupted when it comes to voice recognition and dialing. Have no idea what it could be.

SK[;8024721']I'm not sure which card it is. It was some generic Ebay card. Possibly why. Even so the card works fine in my PC, the phone however reports the card corrupt.

it killed mine I've seen issues listed on a lot of forums, and even at the bottom of the FAQ it lists the dreaded "what to do if your phone won't turn on after update". The point is, even though yes it is a "supported" program there are still issues with it and you have to be careful.
