Off to HQ

Well I'm back. Check out my album for the pics from the factory. They would not let you take photos from inside the factory. But I got some great ones of the museum. They had all three different models of Capirossi's 990 Desmosedici. I was able to sneak up and grab a seat on one of them. They had the actual bike Smart won Imola on as well as the first bike Ducati ever made. The place was just filled with so much history of racing it was amazing. The factory was very interesting. All the bikes are hand assembled by different teams. One team build the engine and another mounts it and the trans. But no robots are used for the essembly. They refer to the employees as the artist. And that hand assemly is yet another thing that sets them apart from other manufacturers. I only got to look through the window into the Corse dept. No one was there but they had all the different engine from all the different bikes lined up. I also found out the every single bike is individually tested. They bring each bike into a dyno booth and test all the electronics and bring the bike through all the gears. I saw the new Motoard and a 1098 go through the process. They had row upon row of 1098's and motoards waiting to be tested and shipped out. Very interesting to find out all the bike are shipped out without any plastics. Only the tank and if it is another color besides red it has the front tire hugger. All in all very interesting. I disapointed that they had nothing that said Ducati Factory of Bologna on it. Neither in the museum store or the dealership across the street. The dealership was also a disccount store with tons of stuff. I almost bought on the factory "artists" work suits for in my garage but could not find one that me my girlfriend and the bike could all fit in at once.

What, a discount store across the street? How did I miss that?
Must have been all the EU,s my wife spent at the museum.
After the Ducati tour, and the King Neptune foutan, Farrari was my 3ed fave. Did you get a chance yo get out that fare?

NO I wish. The girlfriend was complaining enough about having to go Ducati. My next trip back though I plan on visiting Ferrari and Just sitting on the beach in Nice.

Nice pix, Outlaw.

Even though you couldn't shoot inside the factory, and the bodywork was off the bikes, could you tell if what you were seeing were '08 1098's?

LOL. Ya Ya I know. This was my 5th time to Europe and her first and we are already palnning out trip back. I want to make sure that she saw as much as she could. Besides we missed out flight out so we lost one day. Then since we missed out flight out we could not get our connector from Dusseldorf to Munich so I drove from Dusseldorf to Venice. That's over 1000 miles. I had been up for 38 hours when we finally got to Venice. So that was a loss of another day.
