How can you tell if your dog is intelligent or not? Everyone keeps saying mine looks like he'd be "intelligent" but what exactly qualifies him (or any other dog for that matter) as being intelligent or not? I know some would say their ability to learn/catch on quickly, but what if a dog would probably catch on quickly but was always so heavily distracted that it prevented them from catching on quickly?
How can one just look at a dog and say that they seem like they have a lot of potential and are intelligent, but not say that about other dogs? Would like everyone's opinions on what qualifies a dog as intelligent to them, and how you come to that conclusion when you see a specific dog (and by this I do not mean because of its breed).
Well I have only had my dog for a month, and he came from a place which gave him no previous training at all. I think he is doing very well in his training. He takes commands from me very seriously and does them on the spot - so long as there are no distractions, such as when we went to the park today, he suddenly forgot how to lay down
but it's only been a month and he isn't very socialized yet, so it's a work in progress!
