Off Shore Drilling. What Will Happen Now?

Does anyone realise the rationale in this thinking? There are more than 3,500 oil rigs in the gulf. Most of them have been there for more than 30 years! How many accidental spills have occured up until now? Ummmm...ONE!

A space shuttle blew up back in 1986, but we have since launched many more since then. Sould we have stopped space exploration back in the 60's because of a rocket blowing up on the launch pad?
If a building collapses in Los Angeles should we stop making buildings? How about if there's a car accident, should we stop making cars?

There's inherent risk in everything.

risk and reward. we risk killing animals in research but when we find a cure for polio the reward is very few people suffer now.

Should we outright ban oil usage? Could you live without plastic and the other dozens of derivatives made from oil?

With the recent oil spill, do you think that it is a good idea to continue the plans for off shore oil drilling in the US? This devastation will be evident for many years to come. Should we drill on land? It would be better to find a better energy source but of course, we all know that won't happen for a very long time if ever. Your thoughts please.
viewAske: I agree with your point of view as far as this being a rarity. But we must admit that this mishap is enormous with extremely long lasting effects. Just asking for views on the subject.
