# of Receivers

The easy answer is NO.

i hate TV is almost correct by saying you get 4 receivers installed free. He should have said, you get 4 Tuners installed free. A slight difference.....

You can have the 9242 and 2 other receivers or 2 x 9242's hooked up free when you are a new customer.

Well done. You have to be persistant sometimes with Bell.

I think it is all down to the level of training, coupled with the fact that on some of Bell's literature, there was a mistake, it refered to receivers NOT Tuners, when opening a NEW Rental account. So yes it is annoying but I feel sorry for the CSR's sometimes.

Pinza had the right info...

6 receivers (up to 12 tuners!) maximum for an account
4 installed free of charge when you are opening a rental account

If you call to activate a 7th receiver Bell TV will tell you they can not activate it unless they deactivate one of the currently active one

Well, it's not really about the "free", it's more about how many can I have. If I can keep my setup and pay some for installation, that's fine.

As stated, the standard is 6 receivers per account, installation of the first 4 tuners is free for new installs.

However, you may consider receivers that are UHF remote capable as they can potentially service more than one location. A single tuner model can be used this way and a dual tuner offers even more advantages to this type of scenario. Personally though, since i run primarily PVRs, I've opted for individual units but you may want to consider this option unless all 6 TVs are operational at the same time.

Ok, I believe you guys, but that also means that the rep on the phone at Bell was wrong about it. I repeated the condition w/ him so it shouldn't be a case of misheard. In other words, the trainee at the first Bell store was correct, which the rep on the phone said that she wasn't! Whom do you believe?

Thanks. I think I have what I need.

Now onto costs. Should be interesting. What I would like is:

Dual tuner HDPVR in the main living room. HD box in the family room downstairs and an HD box in the bedroom. Regular SD box in the kids room and for the Tivo.

All that with installation. Not sure I want to know what that would cost.

No, I won't believe any of them. When I see it on black on white and with Bell's letterhead then I'll at least be able to hold them to it. But since I haven't got the terms on paper, and can't find the offering on their website in details, it's a bit hard.

I mean, there is not just one discrepancy, there are a lot more, and I'm only starting to find out before I sign up! Imagine things going down the road after you have signed the 2 year contract w/ them. I don't like surprises.

If you go for the above scenario, 9242 and 2 x 6141's ALL would be installed for free, as a new Customer, who Rents or Buys the equipment and signs a 2 year term contract.

Then onto Tuner #5;

2 options in my book;

Option #1, add an SW24 before the Bell Supplied SW44 on the Nimiq 1 (91 degree lines), giving 2 outputs to feed the SW44 and 1 for the 5th Tuner and a spare for future use. NOTE; Tuner #5 would ONLY get Nimiq 1 signals but as it is an SD receiver, no big deal, unless you want a specific channel that is located on Nimiq 2. Cost, through Bell TV, would be $75 to add the 5th tuner and $75 for the SW24. TOTAL $150.

Option #2, add and SW24 to BOTH sets of feeds, giving 4 outputs of 91 & 4 of 82. These would then feed into 2 x SW44's. Giving a total of 8 available outlets, each with Nimiq 1 & 2 signals. Cost, through Bell TV, would be $75 to add the 5th tuner and $150 for the 2 x SW24's and $150 for the second SW44. TOTAL $375. They might offer to use High frequency Splitters in place of the 2 x SW24's, if they do the cost should drop by around $100.

Can I have more than 1 PVR on my account? I currently have a 9242 and I'm tired of the kids filling it with Hannah Montana, Zoey 101, etc. and leaving me no room to record anything. I want to get them there own for the basement TV so I can finally record stuff. I rent one now and would probably buy the second one (if I can get them to give me a deal).

Thanks,

Igster, for that many tuners I would highly recommend looking into DPP Technology. I believe there is a sticky that discusses this. Essentially you would need a DPP Lnb and DPP 44 Switch. It will run you just over $100 on ebay.

Thats OK my freind, so do Bell..... The last Programming brochure clearly said 4 receivers, yet it meant 4 Tuners....lol

Another classic typo. Does no one do any proof reading anymore.?

Not as good as the old ExpressVu Programming Guide that had the Rogers Remote on the front, that was an absolute classic.... I still have a couple of those..

Or the Ikea catalogue, with a small Dog with huge private parts laid on a Sofa.... Too funny. I digressed, sorry.

Went to 3 Bell stores today in Greater Vancouver w/ my friend. First store we forgot to ask this question (and it's a trainee who's helping us so it's unlikely that it'll be accurate answer, so I thought).

2nd store and 3rd store both said that customer can only have up to 4 "receivers", but the HD PVR counts as "2 receivers". I thought I remember wrong from info on the forum, but now I'm confused.

Is this is new policy? Both store said the same thing. Friend wants to get 4 receivers while one is the HD PVR, now he hasn't signed up because all the planning is stuck w/ this.
