Thanks for all the help guys. Like I said, I'm considering the move, but I'm not sure about the cost of all the receivers, so I guess we will see what the wife says. She's the boss after all.
 
I'm currently with Shaw but am thinking about going back to Bell.

Right now with Shaw I have 6 hookups. 2 lines going into the main HDPVR, a line going into our Tivo (also in the main living room), a line in our bedroom, one in the kids room and another one to the HD receiver in the downstairs family room.

I would hate to eliminate any of these. While the Tivo may seem redundant to some, we use it to record half hour sitcoms and other various things that we wouldn't think of recording using the HDPVR. Basically Tivo Suggestions keep the Tivo full and give us things to watch when we have nothing else recorded on the HDPVR or during the Summer especially with nothing but reruns on.

Is there a Bell solution allowing 6 lines?

You can have up to 6 receivers on 1 account...Although only 4 will be installed free of charge...
 
Talked to Bell rep tonight. She said that we have a limit of (6) receivers on our account. I have the following
(1) 9242
(2) 5800
(1) 3100
(1) 6100
She said that the 9242 counts as (2 receivers) on my account but I have it in one tuner mode because it is near impossible to wire it into any other TV area. Is she correct in saying that the 9242 is considered 2 receivers on my account. This would mean that if you had (3) 9242 in your house you are maxed out? Can't see spending $35 to add one receiver. Thanks in advance.
 
NEW rental customer can have upto 4 "Tuners" installed for free, during the initial first installation ONLY.

If a Rental customer wants more than this to a maxiimum of 6 "Receivers" all additional lines and hardware are billable. This can be done at the same time as the initial installation.

Your case of 3 rental and 1 ORS (Purchase) shoul be just fine, providing that you are NOT talking about more than 4 Tuners for the initial Rental part.

So for example a 9242 & 2 x 4100's is OK but 2 x 9242 & 1 x 4100 is NOT (For the Rental part during the first installation). And additional lines or receivers to a maximium of 6 receivers can be done at the same time but will all be billable to the customer.

Bell TV's maximum limit is 6 receivers per Account. (there are exceptions but it will involve long conversations with the presidents office etc). These can be 6 Dual Tuner receivers.
 
FYI, You may not need the TIVO if you have a 9242 with added drive since you would have lots of drive space. (there is a thread discussing around here if you have further questions on that aspect)

Just phoned up Bell Customer Service, again things are not the same there.

Installation fee: Bell said that installation is free for only the first receiver, purchase or rental. Subsequent receiver is $50. each for installation fee, regardless purchase or rental. I even asked saying that the Bell store said that if all rental, all 4 receivers (up to) are included installed (i.e. no fees), and he said that they are wrong. After reading what Pinza posted, I am not sure whom to believe, totally confused! (why can't they put those things up on their website? Nothing there).

# of receivers: Bell said an account can have up to 6 receivers, regardless of HD PVR or others. But he said that one can only "order" 2 HD PVR, or other receivers (or a combo of 1 HD PVR and 2 others) at one time. It seems to mean that is same for purchase or rental as well? Got a bit confused there, but he suggests that the customer should activate one at a time, and then call in for the rest (again, I earlier said the others might be rental but I haven't made up my mind yet, that was communicated clearly). So there seems to be a procedural hurdle, but can be 6 receivers in total after all.

Discounts: Bell said that the $10. per month credit for 12 months on applies if they are all rentals. If one unit is purchase then no credits. This is not clear on their website.

Equipment credit / discount: Only first purchase unit has the $100. programming credit (at the store I thought that was a purchase discount) on the HD PVR model, and then 50% of original price bill credit. Subsequent purchases must be full retail price, and no credit or discounts, regardless where it is purchased (Futureshop, or Bell store).

Contract: Purchase is 2 year contract. Subsequent rental w/ first being purchase is 1 year contract on the rentals themselves. All rentals are 2 year contract. Early Cancellation Fee is $149. + $50. for each rental. If downgrade rental, then also ECF on the unit.

Lots of info I have been trying to sort through but various inconsistencies found from diff. sources. Oh my!
 
The agent, as it is often the case at Bell TV, got it all wrong!

You are allowed a maximum of 6 receivers, no matter if they are single or dual tuner, meaning you could could have if you wanted 12 tuners (6X9242)
 
Just activate your sixth ird online then you don't have to talk to anyone. Takes 5 minutes.
 
That is correct for a NEW RENTAL customer, the total installation of these 4 Tuners is Free if you sign a 2 year Contract.
 
It is not tuners, it is smarcards/receivers (AKA access devices) activated on the account which counts. Last I heard, dual tuners use one acess device for both tuners.
 
No, a dual-tuner is considered one physical box regardless of the mode you are using it in. It may using two feeds but is one unit on your account.
 
Well, as mentioned, we use the Tivo Suggestions functionality to pick shows for us to record that we may be interested in. It works quite well and nothing in Canada comes close to this type of functionality.
 
So if we have the dual tuner HDPVR does that only count as one of the 4? If that is the case, then we could easily be setup and only pay for an additional line to the receiver for the Tivo.
 
Talked to a different CSR. She said I had the max allowed tuners. I then said yes, those are tuners and not receivers. She then went ahead and programmed my (6th) receiver. Why would they even try to pull this? CSR was real polite and good.
