Via Sony, Crackle and its Animax collection, the English dub of the romantic comedy Nodame Cantabile has recently premiered in North America for the first time. 45 episodes have aired over three seasons in Japan since 2007, with the third and final season having concluded in March 2010.

Here's a plot summary taken from the first volume of the original Josei manga by Tomoko Ninomiya:

Well, I'd heard good things about this, and the classy & classical music is a plus. It's originally a josei title too, and from what little I've seen of the first episode so far it definitely shoots higher than your average school setting plot. I'll be giving it a shot.
 
Since late March, from what I noticed. Follow the unified streaming thread because I almost thought that it may not get a thread.

However, the dub's actually pretty solid. I'm 6 episodes in and everyone is good. I like Chiaki the most as his VA nails the part. Plus, the plot and story are really good. I'm actually glad Sony brought it over to the US. I ignored the fansubs and didn't gave the manga a quick look. Maybe it has to do with being older and me personally getting tired of shonen beyond literally the one title I care about (Claymore), but since watching the first three episodes on Sunday, I became interested in buying the manga and hope that the rest (including Paris and Finale) come over.
 
I know it's josei and I think you're misinterpreting what I typed.

To clarify, I used to read a lot of shonen and read Shonen Jump. But, nowadays, I've gone more into seinen titles due to Dogs, Black Lagoon, and Detroit Metal City and pretty much buy SJ as a "rainy day" book and put it on the backburner. Shoujo have been on-and-off with me since forever; an example: I love Kaitou Jeanne, but haven't finished Full Moon and Gentlemen's Alliance in a long time. But, lately, due to my evolving taste, I tend to want to read/view older-skewing titles and branch off into josei (need to get started on With The Light). I'll admit, though, that the shock of Nodame being on Crackle got me into it - the same excuse I had with Nascar being on Fox back in 2001 because it was Nascar on Fox (remeraber the glow pucks in their NHL broadcasts?); however, the realistic story, believable characters, and the relationship between Nodame and Chiaki in the 6 episodes I watched are what's keeping me into it - a part of the evolving taste.
 
I watched part of the first episode and I thought the dub was okay, I didn't really like Chiaki's voice, though. I guess it takes some getting used to?

I wonder what this means for Nodame Cantabile's chances of getting licensed in the US, though. The fact that they put this up here actually kind of worries me. It's like "Yeah, we're not going to dub this series here, but we'll let you watch it if you want."

I new that Animax had done a dub of it beforehand, but didn't expect to ever see it here. I hope they get the second and third seasons done and put up on Crackle before too long! (I know the third season may be way out there since it just finished.)
 
Chiaki's voice feels so...out of place. Chiaki in the first few episodes is a frustrated youth, but the dub makes him sound like a disgruntled thirty-something. Doug Erholtz, Chiaki's voice actor, tenRAB to voice deep voiced adult males, which makes Chiaki sound too old. Granted, he voiced Momoshiro in Prince of Tennis, but his Momo is too young on the spectrum.

I find Nodame to be just right, but I need to hear her at her silliest to make a final judgement.

-The OVA "Special Lesson 1" (even though it's listed at the end, it takes place before episode 9)
 
Oh my, I've been meaning to get back into this series. I finished roughly a third of it but never continued from it.

Here's to hoping that "Gyabo" hasn't lost its impact in the translation.
