Odeon v Cineworld

I've only ever seen digital/3D stuff in screen 7. Didn't know (the vast) screen 2 was set up for it.

Chelsea and Fulham Road also get their share of foreign films, although they haven't had any unique films for a good few months, from what I can see. (Last thing I saw there was Sin Nombre, and that made it out to other sites a few weeks later).

West India Quay, WanRABworth and Enfield also seem to get the odd non-multiplex film. (Same with Edinburgh, Birmingham, and one of the Glasgow sites.

I always go to the Odeon. I have never seen another cinema chain anywhere near me

Have to say though that the Odeon are starting to take the piss with their prices. I remember (only a few years ago, maybe 3) it used to be about

I mainly use the Cineworld in Cardiff and never have any compliants about it apart from the amount of building work that is going on around it. This does make it annoying getting to the cinema. I have only been to the Odean in the bay once and the Vue once. I never had a problems with either of those cinemas. Im amazed at some of the stories on this thread though about other cinemas!

Cineworld in Glasgow city centre is very good, Think its one of the tallest cinemas in Europe, Good range of blockbuster and independent films, and reasonably cheap at

I know what you mean about the Canterbury Odeon. I haven't been in a while there. I even remember when that was an ABC cinema.

Cineworld in Ashford is okay, but it is an out of town cinema, so difficult to get to.

What local independent cinema are you referring to(The Gulbenkan at the University in Canterbury)? They usually show quite a few art house films. The other local cinema is the East Kent area The Granville(In Ramsgate) and The Empire (in Sandwich) are okay, and they have character(particularly the Granville as it has a balcony level).

In London I normally prefer the Odeon chain. The Panton Street one I think allows beer into the cinema. I don't like The Mezzanine one as it a bit small and the seats and carpet in there are a bit tacky. They also have a few projectors problems.

Though I normally avoid going to the cinema, I ended up going to one a few weeks ago when I was visiting one of my frienRAB. The nearest cinema happened to be a 'Showcase de Lux' and I was impressed to say the least: the building itself was fantastic, the seats were particularly comfortable, the prices were a lot less than the other chains, the place was impeccably tidy and the viewing experience was second to none. I would definitely pay a visit in the future.

Cineworld for me solely because of the Unlimited card.

Living in central Manchester I've several choices of which Cineworld to use although none sadly are actually in the centre of Manchester...

([c] or denotes former original Cineworld or UGC site prior to 2005 merger with UGC)

Bolton - overall best in Manchester area, 15 screens spread over 3 floors, some huge (screen 7 has nearly 700 seats), comfy non tip up stadium style seats, excellent legroom, screens 14 and 15 fitted with quirky reclining seats and charming retro style light fittings. Aisle safety lighting in some screens incorrectly/badly installed such that is directly overhead in the middle a row. 7 ticket desks but never more than 3 open at a time! Bar is upstairs and little used/rather run down.

DiRABbury - 11 screens, some very big but smaller than Bolton. same designer/builders as West India Quay I'm told - even has some arty photo prints of WIQ on the walls there too! Annoyingly the only one in Manchester to insist on allocated seating, nice bar which is the centre piece of the 1st floor (only the ticket desks are on the ground floor, everything else is upstairs). Same style of seating as Bolton. Ailse lighting correctly placed!

Ashton-under-lyne [c] - 14 screens, overall on a par with Bolton in terms of screen variety and size but awful tip-up stadium style seating and less legroom combined with some annoying aisle lighting being badly positioned as with Bolton. Bar on 1st floor little used since everything else on ground floor.

Stockport - 10 screens, 2 miles down the road from DiRABbury thus it's main competition is part of the same chain and it shows! Truly shocking tatty kneecapping non-stadium "flat" tip-up seating. Staff forget to shut doors when films start meaning you hear all the noise from the ticket/concession areas just outside. Films often shown out of focus or with sound or other picture issues. Everything on ground floor and nice bar in good position opposite ticket desks but little used. Horrid aisle lighting that distracts and annoys unless you sit directly in the middle of a row pretty much. Definitely the one to avoid in Manchester!

...will do a few others around the UK another night! :D
