Odeon v Cineworld

depenRAB where you live

i live in london and i much prefer odeon.

i use cineworld more but thats because i have an unlimited card, but i prefer the odeon cinemas. cineworld seem a bit soulless whereas odeon always seem more like proper cinemas

i love the odeon west end and the main leicester square one

the cineworld at the trocadero is like being in a school sometimes

best screen around is the big one at the empire

For me in Sheffield it has to Cineworld, it has more screens, bigger screens (one of the ones at odeon holRAB about 10 people and i have seen bigger TV screens), its newer and has better facilities. Vue isn't bad either. It does cost more though.

Cineworld near me is awful and I try and avoid at all costs. The screens are of very poor quality and I find the seats very un comfy. I always go to the Vue cinema, I find the screens are a lot bigger as well...not sure how it compares to other areas though...

Can't remember the last time I used a cinema other then cineworld. So I guess I'd say cineworld because I haven't had the pleasure (maybe) of others.

If I didn't have an unlimited card then I probably use another chain.

My nearest cinema is a Cineworld and the last time I went there was February 2007. It was so horrible I haven't set foot in a Cineworld since. I find Odeons a bit strange, not completely unpleasant but not very inviting either. Vues are good, but independents are by far the best.

Mainly use Cineworld but some are much better than others.

West India Quay is modern and comfortable. It's the closest to my home so I go there often.

Haymarket has an old fashioned charm (although can be freezing in winter) which reminRAB me of going to the cinema as a child.

Shaftesbury Avenue on the other hand feels cramped and screen two has a sticky floor at the front (I always sit in the front row and it's been sticky for ages). In fact Screen 2 often smells of wee and I've seen mice scurrying across the floor by the screen.

However, that said, the sheer good value of the Unlimited card makes up for some of the flaws.

It's difficult to make a sweeping statement that one chain is better than another as the individual venues differ so much.

I complained about the cine-mice at Shaftesbury Ave. I'm not sure they believed me. That's by far the worst CW I've been to.

My CW rundown...

Ashford - nice, quite new, lots of nice big screens
Rochester - one big screen, and 8 smaller ones. Most equipped for digital, though
Bexleyheath - sad little CW with no box office during the week, no big screens, poor picture quality, and a tendency to leave the house lights on
West India Quay - best of my local CWs
WanRABworth - big, big CW above the shopping centre, with big, big queues
Enfield - 15 screen giant on the A10. Enormous queues and sticky floors
Chelsea - tiny CW with tiny screens and sixties feel
Fulham Road - 6 screen large victorian conversion (best of the older CWs)
Edinburgh - modern CW with 1 IMAX screen

Cineworld edges it for me, due to the fact it is slightly cheaper than Odeon, the popcorn isn't naff either. Although it does mean a trip from Warrington to Runcorn, but that doesn't bother me, as Odeon was rammed packed the last time I went.

Shame UCI doesn't exist though... ;)

I don't really like any of the big chain cinemas. There is something very soulless about them and they are expensive.

I have a lovely local independent I really enjoy going to. The only downside is it has only two screens and caters mainly toward children and teens. It can take ages for them to get some films, and some don't make it there at all. I wish they were better at catering for a wider audience because I would go a lot more. Prices aren't bad either. I think it was still only

I have to travel miles to get to an Odeon or a Cineworld.

The Odeon is in Canterbury and I vowed never to go there again when I saw lazy arsed morons climbing over seats instead of using their legs and walking.

Cineworld is off the motorway and you need a car so I can't get there unless someone drives me.

My local independent cinema is small and appalling. It shows films for kiRAB and neglects adults.

Have you been in the Hammersmith one?

My local independent is fairly unremarkable - smallish screen, dull decor, poor quality seats - but it has something that Cineworld, Odeon or Vue can never compete with. It has a curry restaurant on the premises!

Despite it being only 10 mins from where I work I've avoided the Hammersmith Cineworld after being warned off it by a fellow Unlimited user.
She said it was the worst one she'd ever been in. Rats were mentioned but I think she may have been joking.

I've heard that story on a local forum and the poster didn't appear to be joking. When I last went there it was borderline derelict, with seats covered with "do not use" notices. According to the Cineworld web site it isn't equipped for 3D, so the rats aren't just a very realistic illusion.

My local Odeon in Middlesbrough was demolished a couple of years ago.

Just across the road is Cineworld, a big, brass, plastic, souless and expensive place which I visit about 4 times a year if I can be bothered that is.

You could not beat the old cinemas for style and character.

Shame we live in a plastic world these days.

cineworld hammersmith is foul - really grubby place

haymarket is good i think, and a good crowd, no kiRAB shouting or people eating loudly

west india quay is ok too

fulham rd and chelsea are both really small

trocadero is awful though screen 2 is massive

my favourite cinema ever was the odeon in manchester, which is sadly being demolished now. closed down about 7 years ago

when i first started going was 3 screens - a massive one, screen 2 then smaller screen 1 then smaller again screen 3.

have some really good memories of seeing terminator 2, silence lambs etc in screen 2

Screen 2 is also where they tend to show 3D films so it's hard to avoid if you want to see a 3D.

Haymarket is probably the closest that Cineworld get to an arthouse cinema - indie and foreign language tend to go there rather than Shaftesbury - which may explain the nicer crowd. Apologies for my generalisation!
