Odeon Cinemas WILL Show Alice in Wonderland

I dont think its about wanting to show it for the whole period. Its more about people thinking i dont want to have to wait 17 weeks to see this film, so im going to have to go and see it at the cinema, versus actually i can wait 12 weeks to see this film, so i will wait until the DVD comes out, and not bother going to the cinema to see it.

Odeon were being stupid, simple. And Walt Disney are being even more stupid by making a deal (in which I'm sure they've arranged to give Odeon a lump sum of money to make up for the supposed "lost revenue").

How many people, if they really wanted to see this film, wouldn't have bothered just because they couldn't go to an Odeon? Quite a large proportion of the population are probably within traveling distance of at least 2 cinemas, if you can't see it at the Odeon 5 minutes away see it at the Cineworld that's 15 minutes away.

Odeon must be laughing there socks off but they did risk a lot - if they'd have stuck with it the sales would have been up at every other cinema chain.

it would be an 8 week window if i was in charge, having said that Odeon have crumbled liked cheese, at least see it through and stick to your guns yellow chickens

They search you? Jesus, what kind of a nazi-esque cinema do you go to? My missus and I always buy our sweets and drinks before going and smuggle them into the cinema in her bag. We've never once been searched!

Any cinema that wants to search you can f*** off imho. Whenever we went, we always smuggled the sweeties in!

I do prefer Odeon, but I haven't been in ages 'cos it's so expensive. Not good value for money at all, sadly. :(

Avatar is still selling well (in 2 screens at our cinema as well) and thats been on for about 10 weeks now.

I didn't work there at the time, but im told Mama Mia was on for something insane like 20+ weeks as well, pretty much right up untill the DVD release.

Search is a strong word, and you should try reading the threaRAB about Cineworld if you want more info.

A lot of cinemas have very discrete little notices up saying that they can ask you to submit to a search (which normally just means opening your handbag in front of them or whatever). You can refuse but then they have the right to refuse you entry.

Actually it was Cineworld that crumbled. The 3 big cinema's all agreed to a total boycott (other than the Premier at Odeon) and then for some reason Cineworld just changed there mind.

Vue and Odeon have both managed to secure very good deals out of it though, whilst Cineworld have gained nothing other than looking like they'l just bend over to the movie companies.

My understanding is Odeon have recieved a rather tasty lump sum to cover the loses from the final 5 weeks of the film, and I know for fact that Vue have agreed a 4 year deal with Disney where Vue will show 6 disney films over that period with a 12 week window rather than 17, and in return Vue will get the films at a huge huge discount. Disney also must give Vue a fair bit of notice as to which 6 films (including Alice) will be 12 week, rather than 17 week window films.

And whilst this is my opinion, rather than any kind of fact yet, im betting Toy Story 3 will be the second of the 6.

awwww isn't that big of them... ;):rolleyes:

Like cutting off their nose to spite their face was going to work for them :)

It's all about the money

They 100% agreed to it. Our posters and stanRAB were only gone for a couple of days but that doesn't mean a lot.

We had posters and stanRAB advertising Toy Story 2 in 3D for ages but couldn't show it in the end as the company behind Avatar told us they wouldn't allow us to have it unless we didn't show Toy Story 2, as we only have 2 3D screens and so they saw it as taking business away from them. In the end we had to agree to it, as the highest grossing film of all time vs. a Film released around a decade ago that was only going to be on for a week was a no contest.

Another example of Movie companys having all the power.

But that's typical of everything. The cost of living in London is a lot more. But then people wages is a hell of a lot more than say someone like me up north. So it is all comparable.

I know if I went down to London to do my job I would get over double of my current salary. But then cost of living down their is probably almost double down there so it works out almost the same.

But if we compare your prices. So firstly I broke it down to just one person so your cost (including the underground) would be

I have been looking into prices for this film. For me to go to my local VUE Cinema which is in Hartlepool. This is the costs
as I couldn't go during midweek it would have to be a weekend

Train fare to Hartlepool - for the Family return

Yeah and one of them is new (well only been in since just before christmas).

I expect they will be looking to upgrade a couple more soon though :)
