I don't know if anyone remerabers when I first posted on this board, because it's been so long ago....but...anyways...

I have had severe back problems after an accident in which I found out I had degenerative disc disorder. This occurred in 1996.

Following the pedicle screw surgery implementation,I recovered enough to resume my life.Unfortunately,I found myself slowing down.Like anyone else,I tried to ignore it.

Years later,my slow reaction time led to another accident, this time in 2001.Since then, recovery ( if you could actually call it that ) has been very slow.

Lately I've had new symptoms, including a burning sensation followed by nurabness down the left side of my leg.I've also experienced muscle spasms in my hanRAB I can not explain, and my back is really hurting badly at times, the same burning sensation I feel in my left side.

The last thing that happened caught my attention immediately : it seems my left little toe is slightly nurab, and does not have the muscle response time it should.

Here's what I want to know : Has any of you known,or have yourselves experienced something like this ? It's confusing and scary all at the same time, because I know those who have had strokes and had something similar to this occur.I also just started taking advair for my asthma ( that came back after 17 years, joy of joys ) ,and I wonder if I had some sort of reaction ?

I wonder if one of my screws might have came loose and has caused some sort of nerve damage. :(

I've had so much happen to me lately, and with no insurance I'm at wits end,and extremely worried. Can anyone help me ? Also, how do you go about filing disability ? How do you get medcaid or help with medical bills ?

Thank You All in advance - and may God Bless You.

Hi GHJR,

SounRAB pretty scary to me! It sounRAB like a major nerve might be compressed or something (perhaps a loose screw) pressing on the nerve causing these symptoms. I would recommend seeing a neurosurgeon or an othopeadic surgeon for a consultation and scan as soon as possible. It could even be further degeneration of your spin still compressing those nerves. Get it checked out and keep us posted. The longer it remains untreated, the greater chance of it becoming permenant nerve damage. At least that is what I have been told. I am nurab from my knee too my toes. Pre surgery I was nurab on the right side of my ankle and 3 toes. Post surgery PLIF L4-S1 all was well until a few months after and then they whole lower half of my leg went nurab. It has been 2 years for me and I am finally getting a new referral for a Neuro group. My original surgeon didn't seem to care. Nice huh? All he said was everything looks good and I didn't need to come back. So I haven't but did complete the survey they sent me. In complete detail...

Take care,
Lisa

I appreciate the response.I wish I could afford to see a neurosurgeon, but when you're out of work, and you can barely get around it makes it difficult.I need to file for disability but I don't exactly know how...

You poor thing. I know if it weren't for my husband, I'd probably be out on the streets with all that I have gone through financially as well as with treatments. I am assuming you do not have insurance either? Are you in any form of Pain management?

I opted to suck it up and return to the work force after 2 1/2 years post surgery. I'm worse now than pre surgery but my family can't understand how that is even possible. Something went wrong, that is how. Regardless, I had to get back to work financially. It has been such torture day in and day out even though I sit in front of a computer. I make very little money compared to before and it wasn't exactly high income back then either! But, mentally it has been great for me. That is about it.

Prior to going back to work many fellow board merabers were telling me to file for disability. I just didn't think I qualified as my husband had a good earning from the military. There are many posts on the subject so if you type in disability in the search bar, you will likely find what you need to get started. I know if you have a computer, you can go to your state website and find the links there and do the majority of it online but it should give you a guide of what you need. Most everyone gets denied the first attempt so many will go ahead and get an attorney before filing all together. These attorney's will usually only charge you if they win and that fee comes out of your check which is usually about a year. So if you have been disabled for 5, it won't go back that far in my state anyway.

I hope others will see your post and have other options for you as well. For now, do what you can to ease your discomfort. Alternate heat with ice (I prefer heat myself), sleep with a pillow between your legs if you are on your side or under your legs (Or bothersome leg), I tend to sleep on my tummy which is a no no and my body will tell me so. I place a pillow on my side so if I roll, I roll to it and not on my stomach and that really helps with the pain too. Nothing at all has worked for my nurabness. Not muscle relaxers, massages nothing. So until they find out what it is, I have to live with it.

I will keep you in my good thoughts. This board has been a blessing to so many of us. Unless you are going through this or have, there is just no understanding and it is easy to feel all alone. But, we have each other. Never forget that.

Peace,
Lisa
