Odd ringtone issues with Android 2.1

Has anyone experienced this odd occurance.

It seems to have occur more often when I'm connected to my usb cable.

The problem: My notification ringtone changes to a song on my Nexus. The only way to stop the music, is to open up the notification, i.e., txt, phone call etc.

I'm rebooting the phone now to see if that corrects the issue, but I'm curious to know if this is something fairly widespread or unique to my phone. Being unique may mean it could be some sort of hardware issue. I really seriously doubt if that's the case but I want to cover my bases.

Edit: Rebooting didn't fix it

Edit #2: looks like one of my settings got messed up. I went into my messaging settings, and viewed the select ringtone for that, and nothing was set which is odd. I changed it to default and that seemed to work. The odd thing is I had not gone in there for any sort of changes in the first place.

Instead of removing this post, I'll keep it here in case someone else searches for a similar occurrence

Are you using Rings Extended? Or otherwise using ringtones from your SD card? When you connect your phone to a PC via USB and you mount the drive the phone cannot access the SD card, hence if anything that needs a ringtone is used the settings reset to default. This has happened to me 3 or 4 times in the past 1.5 years.

I first thought that too, but it happened on occasion when I wasn't using the USB cable, it was just that the usb cable made it easily reproducible. I'm not using any other software for ringtones either.

I just of the media/audio/ directories with various ringtones in the notification directory under audio or the ringtones directory
