...them and LOST THEM. Legal? So I Northbound on College Ave at the corner of HWY 76 and College waiting for a green light. Green light I'll pull forward pretty quick to get in front of the cars i passed while whitelining. I get up to about 50 (speed limit 55) and I here sirens and see lights I pull over. (Note this next part lasted a whole 30 seconds) I turn off my bike. he says "You wanna go to jail tonight?". I say "No, sir.". he says "You might want to make sure there isn't a cop behind you when you take off from a light. turn your bike off." (my bike is off but i fake it for him). I say "Yes, sir.". he says "Gimme your keys.". Yes, sir." HE TAKES MY KEYS AND THROWS THEM PRETTY HARD BEHIND ME INTO SOME BRUSH AND BUSHES! Then he says while getting back on his bike to leave"Go find your keys, if you're here when I get back you are going to Jail. I have a more important call. Go get your keys." As soon as he threw my keys I jumped off my bike and got behind his to see his License Plate Number. 79K64 Oceanside PD Plates.


WTF?!?!? Is this legal? anyone have a good Lawyer?
 
It is probably a violation of department policy, but that doesn't help you much. If you want to hire a lawyer you are free to do so but the damages would be limited to a few minutes of inconvenience and the cost of replacing the keys. You are free to make a complaint to the department and you can try to get the city to reimburse you for the cost of the keys. Whether any of that is to your liking, I could not guess.
 
So what we have here is the usual. A small town cop gets bored. So this creative cop decides to pull over a college kid. Someone with student loans and most likely part time minimum wage job. So losing his keys could put a HUGE strain on his wallet. But this creative blue man doesn't really care. He wants some crooked fun. This lawman pulls you over with nothing more than the intent to throw an innocent students keys. After saving the day and throwing a purely illegal hissy fit this happy hopping cop takes off like he just saved the world.

I know you never said you were a college kid but it adds to the drama. Find a lawyer in your neck of the woods that would take this case. I would. Unfortunately i am all the way in MA. You should call a civil rights attorney in your area. They will direct you to a specialist who handles police misconduct cases. Just letting you know some lawyers wouldn't touch this with a 10 foot pool.
