Obscure Cartoon Spotlight Episode 3: Life With Louie

The official series premiere didn't happen until Saturday, September 9, 1995. The first two episodes were aired as primetime specials on FOX. 'A Christmas Surprise For Mrs. Stillman', premiered in primetime on Sunday, December 18, 1994 and repeated the following Saturday on FOX Kids (December 24, 1994). The second special 'Dad Gets Canned' aired on Sunday, June 18, 1995 after the MMPR: The Movie - Secrets Revealed special. The series did end in March 1998, but reruns continued on FOX Kids until 1999. It also returned briefly in Fall 2001. You are also correct in saying that the show aired on FOX Family beginning circa 1998.

Wow, I didn't know that Summer 1995 mention was a special. My memory was blurrier than I can remember, thanks! ;)

I may have to edit my top post after reading this.

My father and I loved Life with Louie back in the 90s. To this day we reference "I heeeeeeeeard that" in every day conversation.

It's been so long since I've seen it so I don't know if I would still enjoy it as much today as I did back then but I recall it had very subtle humor and I tend to enjoy those kinds of shows.

It'd be nice if it could get a DVD release some time.

Another episode that I like is the one where Andy Anderson's car has problems, and I think he keeps trying and failing to get it fixed or sold.

I was afraid that no one here either remembered or enjoyed the show, but page 2 put those fears to rest.

I'd consider myself a Louie fan. I remember watching the show a lot more than most of the cartoons on Fox Kids at the time. I've got a thing for shows based on childhood moments, and this one was no exception. I loved the cast, they all felt like something out of an average suburban neighborhood, only incredibly exaggerated. I do remember a lot of the holiday specials were pretty good as well. They didn't feel hokey or cheesy, remaining as grounded in reality as much of the shows basis was.

I do wish it'd get a rerelease on DVD as well. I think it only had a few VHS releases during its original run, and they're incredibly hard to find.

You were what, three? I don't think anyone is going to hold it against you.

Actually, that raises an interesting question. I bet a lot of our even younger members have never even seen this show. It's not on DVD and apparently hasn't been on TV for 9 years.

I kind of feel like I was born 10 years earlier than I should, a reason why I know all the obscure stuff around here. I'm definitely one of the younger hardcore cartoon fans here at rabroad.

Very more likely that any of the younger members even knew what I was talking about the last two weeks when I did Eek! the Cat (I wasn't even a half-year old when he first aired) and Sheep in the Big City (I was 8 and a half then).

For example, when I ask a younger kid if he/she has heard of Eek! the Cat, Sheep in the Big City, and Life With Louie, he/she will probably say "What is this guy talking about?". If I did the same with a more modern show like Chowder, Phineas and Ferb, or Back at the Barnyard, he/she will say "Yeah, I've heard of/seen that show before.".

:^:That above statement is why I do these Obscure Spotlights each week. There will be a lot of stuff that kids born as early as the mid-90s wouldn't know. All of the hardcore long-time cartoon fans who go here at rabroad (I'm no exception) will possibly know all the stuff I talk about here, it makes me feel like the youngest hardcore long-time cartoon fan here at the site.

We all grew up in different generations, watching different shows. Today's kids won't believe that Fox Kids was the coolest thing ever, and think that their shows are number one. I for one couldn't possibly argue about such a thing like the animation generation gap, I think all the old and new cartoons are fun to watch, regardless if I caught even the slightest whiff of one.

By the way, Life With Louie has been on DVD in Europe (as well as on TV more recently than the US), not the North America. American VHS yes, but American DVD, no luck in that department.

I didn't relaise that Sheep in the Big City falls under that category. I missed last week's "Obscure Cartoon Spotlight" (maybe you should make a special oage listing the ones you've done, with links, if there is a forum folder for such a list). Of course I never really cared much for that show, and don't watch Cartoon Network much outside of Adult Swim (so I don't know what 1990s Cartoon Cartoons are not on the channel in reruns).

Just click on the word obscure under the tags for this article. I may want to ask a mod or admin first if it's safe to have an Obscure Cartoon Spotlight collection thread if it's okay with them. The previous Spotlights are still open for discussions, but you can no longer vote for how you liked the cartoons the back issues covered.

Also, not all Obscure Cartoon Spotlights will be in the General Animation Forum here. Some of them will be in the Cartoon Network Cartoons Forum, the Disney Animation Forum, the Nicktoons Forum, the Classic Cartoons Forum, the Anime Forum, the Warner Bros. Club, and where else appropriate.

I will also give you the link to the latest Obscure Cartoon Spotlight into your visitor messages if you don't want to miss out on any of the fun and discussion.

Thanks for asking, speedy fast. :)
