Surprise, men who were a part of a manned mission project think manned mission projects are good.
Fact of the matter is, probe missions are vastly more important and budget friendly at this point in our scientific endeavors.
Frankly, Armstrong is far too old for anyone in NASA or anyone who controls NASA to give a shit. Our trips to the moon, while an awesome feat, were just a result of pissing competitions with Russia. Also, at the time they didn't have the technology we have today. Nearly all of the experiments they carried out could not be carried out by probe back then, but today all of them (not involving humans) could have.
Now that we've reached another celestial body we know we can do it. From now on our missions should be in the direct interest of scientific progress.
