Oh yeah, I'm sure you've all heard about these polls that supposedly show that the right wing is gaining ground in public support lately... Well, your polls showed McCain winning in a landslide too, how'd that work out for ya?
I've never seen another politician that could play the right wing like a fiddle the way Obama can...

-Birth Certificate: There's an old saying that "You don't interrupt your enemy while he's making a mistake". If Obama gave up the "long form" certificate that people are crying for... They'd stop crying, right? The fun part is, the crying does nothing to cost conservatives credibility. Why release it? Just let the opposition firebomb themselves.

Speech to Schoolchildren: I've been laughing my ass off about this one for awhile. The strategists knew that the right would react the way they did. The ambiguously socialist sounding DOE materials that were supposed to accompany the speech? Completely planned and staged, designed to give the conservatives something to be up in arms about... Then when he gives the actual speech, the opponents end up looking like complete asses. The best part though, is this created a smoke screen for:

HEALTH CARE!!!: That's right, haven't heard much about that lately, have you? Now with his opponents caught sitting there with their foot in their mouth over the children's speech, he's set to deliver a landmark speech on healthcare reform tonight, and it's looking very likely that the public option is going to make through now as well.

So basically, the right wing has gotten played like a fiddle by Obama. Go ahead and start shouting angry slogans about communism or fascism or secret muslims or whatever in your responses to this as well, that's exactly what Obama wants :D The entire right wing is completely split in two between the rational right (the low taxes, small government guys) and the nutjobs (birthers, health care opponents, etc). Good luck getting behind the same candidates in 2010 and 2012 in your futile attempt to regain seats. The fact is, the right wing has been totally divided and effectively destroyed for the purpose of actually electing republican politicians to seats by Obama's brilliant tactics, and it's going to take decades to repair the damage.

So then: Barack Obama: Most brilliant politician of all time?

Are you saying that manipulation and pulling the wool over people's eyes = brilliance? Ok, he's pretty brilliant then.
 
Health Care didnt go anywhere, It was covered on the news all weekend, the same as the school speech. Do you know the reason as to why Obama is giving the speech? Right now the democrats hold the majority, in theory the Bill will still pass even if every Republican voted no, because the dems have the majority. But 38 democrats are refusing to vote yes on the bill. This speech is supposed to sway those democrats from listening to their voters in the town hall meeting in voting against it and to get them to vote for it. So if anything its the Democratic party that is split. Obama cant do anything with a division among the democrats
 
He ran a brilliant campaign, I'll agree. BUT, it's been downhill all the way since he's taken office.

Obama has become a politician like others. And like other flailing presidents, he will try to salvage a cherished reform -- and his own standing -- with yet another prime-time speech.

But for the first time since election night in Grant Park, he will appear in the most unfamiliar of guises -- mere mortal, a treacherous transformation to which a man of Obama's supreme self-regard may never adapt.

actually, while your theoretical scenario may very well be true in substance, it is by no means carved in stone. To answer your "obama most brilliant" question will take some time---like years--as only history will show whether he is or is not "most brilliant". That said, i voted for the guy, i hope you are mostly correct (with your theory), i'll vote for him again, and it's good to see more people in here defending him. Keep up the good work.
 
What you laid out is basically what I've been thinking for a while. He's giving them silly reasons to freak out so they look batshit insane to any moderate conservatives or independents. Though the nutcases are in the minority, they are extremely loud...and the media will jump on it because they like any sort of conflict...so everyone gets to see the freakshow. All of my conservative friends couldn't believe that anyone would chastise the president for telling kids to stay in school. I heard a lot of "I don't like the guy but you can't berate anyone for encouraging kids to do the right thing." They don't like him but not a single one thinks he's a muslim communist foreigner. They are slowly but surely trying to separate themselves from their lunatic fringe...but it may be too late. Maybe Obama will get them enraged about guns next...make some vague statements about banning handguns or something so they will start frothing at the mouth while he gets some important things taken care of sans obstruction.

Though Obama is clearly playing them and exploiting their over reactionary paranoia, I couldn't say whether he is the best. TBH, I don't know enough about past politicians so say such a thing. But he is good...
 
The only one who is trying to play the right is you. And when did any polls say McCain would win by a Land slide? what Fantasy world do you live in.
