Peel away the semantics. Obama's plan would have decreased our debt far more than any Republican plan that was offered. What Obama eventually signed came with the full blessing of the Republican House. The party of fiscal responsibility.

like more incoming tax money would go to paying down the debt it would just go to more pork spending

if you have more money outgoing than incoming, you cut spending, you dont call the credit card company and ask for a higher limit then go to your boss and ask for a raise
 
if you have more money outgoing than incoming, you try to increase the amount incoming AND cut the amount outgoing. One of those was flatly rejected to even be discussed.


If you have spend more than you make, who tries only to spend less?
