NYAF 2009 Talkback

It will be weird at first to not hear Aaron as Alphonse, but I do like Maxey Whitehead's work in Baccano! J. Michael Tatum playing was obvious once the Premium OVA Collection came out. There are no strong feelings for or against Bryan Massey as the Isaac McDougal right now. It took me a minute to remind who the character was!

The speculator in me wants to say that Aaron's new role in Brotherhood is
Ling Yao
because they probably would have said the character's name if the character was in the first series.

Didn't FUNimation already have distribution rights with the fall of Tokyopop's anime division? I figured that was enough for them to redub it if they see fit or is this actually a new deal? Either way I'm glad. I can't wait to see this dub because I HATE the Tokyopop one (and with good reason) despite it's pretty decent acting and acceptable cast. That dub was poor marketing at it's finest.

That's the first thing I thought. It's a character in Aaron's current range, they wouldn't say who it was if they weren't in the first series, both because it would be a new voice and not a replacement, and because people who only watched their dub of the first series wouldn't know who it was, and since he can't reprise his lead role, it seems like they'd give him the biggest new role they thought he could play.

So Initial D might finally get a proper dub? Huzzah! I have a fond spot for this show. I saw it my freshmen year at college in the anime club, and was bummed by Tokyopop's tacky and stupid marketing of it in the U.S. Hopefully this will bring in some new fans who will be able to appreciate the show for what it really is, instead of some "hip" localization.

My memories of it are sadly vague, so I'll welcome the chance to give it another shot. Especially since this new release will deliver it with original intent.

I agree with Malex in saying Aaron Dismuke will be playing one of the new characters, and
Ling Yao
seems like the perfect spot considering how his voice has changed and how he is a major character in the second half of the series.

It's nice to hear that Funimation kept quite a few actors from the first series to for FMA:B. Too bad that Aaron couldn't continue Al's voice, but it's understandable since he's older now. At least they are going to include him for another role later on in the series, which is nice.

I loved Al's voice. He was a great actor and I'm glad to hear he'll be returning in one shape or form. I can't wait to check out Brotherhood. I wish more shows got the same treatment (a remake that follows the Manga more closely).

Just got back from the con today. The Soul Eater panel was great, and trust me it has an awesome dub. The main cast signed a huge Soul Eater poster for me. Also got to meet Travis Willingham and got his autograph as well. It was funny because I was dressed as Luffy, and since he's the voice of Ace, we called each other brothers jokingly. I did see Kyle Hebert a few times, and he recognized me from the past few times we met at cons, and he gave me a card with himself and his main roles pictured along with his autograph.

Toon Zone Goes to New York Anime Festival 2009

Only able to make it in for Saturday's events this year, but it doesn't look like there's a whole lot of stuff happening compared to previous years in general.

There were also many times when I felt like I was the only person on the floor over the age of 18 who wasn't running a booth .

Only if they get the Movie 2 cast to dub it. I don't mind Jason Liebrecht as Syaoran, but Kari Wahlgren is a thousand times better than Monica Rial as Sakura. In fact, replace Mona Marshall with Jason and the Movie 2 cast would be perfect.
