NY Times - OT Socialist Crew l Tax Me More, Europe’s Wealthy Say

it's not about taking from the rich and giving to the poor, it's about making our society more livable for future generations. the worse off the poor are, the more likely they are to rob/steal what they need to survive.
 
The point is that no one wants to pay taxes, but they think that the burden to help society should be shared. Voluntary/donation systems don't exist because they are neither just nor fair, and really, anyone who uses that as an argument totally misses the point.
