Nudity in Film

Yeah, I understand how there seems to be a difference. It's quite annoying though when parents complain about nudity in art (OMG they showed a nude sculpture during the Olympics! :rolleyes: They seriously need to watch the Michelangelo's David episode of The Simpsons).
 
No, but if I do see it, I'll make sure to only focus on the young "bouncers." :lol:

Male anatomy can suffer from double standards, if it can be called that. But in my personal opinion I wouldn't want my little girl or boy (if I had children) watching a penis on some movie. You see breasts everywhere, women have "boobies" you notice it even if a woman is dressed.

But males have their privates, well, private. So I assume it's more shocking to a child to see something he/she may not be aware of, as in the case with boobs children know about them, moms feed babies with milk from their bodies, etc.

On the other hand violence is a delicate subject because you can't know what the effect will be on a kid, it all depends on what he knows and is capable of understanding, etc. Why are people dead? Why do people hurt other people?
 
Cold Mountain was reasonable but it wasn't necessary to show them naked. Not that I'm complaining. But a great love scene doesn't have to show the actors naked.

Angelina Jolie was also nude in Gia, more so than in Taking Lives.

A movie like Monster's Ball is one of those that banks on the nudity to add feeling to the passionless characters (Billy Bob), and purpose to the desperate one (Halle Berry).
 
Have you seen the Unrated version of "Eurotrip" ;) It has a scene where more than 55 men, from young to old, from fit to fat, ALL RUNNING NAKED after a 17 year old girl in a bikini :lol:

All stuff bouncing freely... :lol:
 
I don't mind the nudity at all, especially if its a certain actress who I like. IE: Angelina Jolie in Taking Lives.
 
This made me wonder....would people rather have their 9 year old daughter see a penis in a movie (not in a sexual context) or see an execution. People always say 'Oh it's only a boob!' but you rarely hear 'It's only a PENIS!'. Is there a double-standard? Or is it just because you rarely see a penis on film? Or is -that- the double standard?
 
I'll be watching the movie Sideways in a bit, but I saw a 30 second clip that has a man (a fat middle-aged man :puke: ) running down a street completely naked with his "parts" bouncing around. :eek: I'm guessing that was rated R. :lol:

It comes down to individual tastes... But even that is heavily influenced by the society you were brought up in as well.

For example, Western Cultures, specifically, the U.S., has a fit about nudity thanks to our Puritain roots... Yet we have no problem with senseless violence where fifty thousand people can be killed (on screen) in the name of "justice".

What is more natural? Seeing a man's schlong or a woman's nipples...

Or seeing portrayls of people being gunned down, blown up, burned alive, blugeoned to death, etc -- Which, by the way, is now considered "PG-13" material and completely hypocritizes this whole obsession with what is appropriate and what is offensive in my opinion.

Actress Jamie Pressley said it best: People in this country [USA] make such a big deal over nudity and its about time they just get over it because it's not that big a deal in Europe and other places. Who really cares?!

It should be noted she is from the South which is very conservative in a lot of respects as well.
 
I agree with what a lot of people have said sometimes it is needed to show the story and there are other times when you can't figure out why they put it there. I rented Open Water on dvd tuesday and I don't know why they felt the nudity they put in there was necessary. In my opinion it had no point. I also saw Garden State and there was a brief scene of nudity but other than that the movie was able to get many points across without it.

As long as it's used to get a real point across and I'm not watching it with my parents it doesn't matter to me.

"R" rated films only allow so much before it gets stapled with an "NC-17" rating.

I think everything, including frontal nudity and sex scenes have specific limits or camera shots to get the "R" rating.

If you've seen A Walk on the Moon you see some red hot sex scenes but no frontal male nudity. But in The Indian Runner there's complete male frontal nudity but no sex, just some make out scenes. Both movies are rated "R".

There has to be a balance, I guess.
 
Lol, I think I've read of it happening. But actors are very professional about stuff like this, it's their job. But being only human I bet it's both embarrassing and normal if it does happen.
 
So... You would be opposed to a scene like those in Schindler's List where Jews are forced to strip down and "shower" -- led into the gas chambers they thought were showers?

That adds to the film because it is essential an d what really happened and is an accurate portrayl.
 
Nudity doesn't bother me but what does bother me is when there's a nude scene which makes no sense to the plot of the actual story or something like that.

By the way, Dark Half Undine, what does PWP mean?
 
I don't mind it, especially if there is a hot actor involved. What gets me are some of the most ridiculous expressions some actresses put on while 'making love' :lol:
 
Caligula was produced by Penthouse. That it happens to be a good film was entirely accidental. It was meant to be basically PWP.

Oh and my feeling on the whole nudity subject, is that it is up to the viewer to decided what is comfortable and uncomfortable for them, though personally I hate when parents say "NO that sex is not ok!" "Gangs of New York...sure! Go for it!"

I think it is ridiculous...what really harms the child...seeing boobies, which he has seen before...or seeing dead bloody people and some man laughing while he decapitates someone...honestly?

Personally I don't care if nudity is tasteful or not, or if sex is, or violence...I don't believe in censorship. But I do care if it doesn't seem to be part of the story, if it isn't an insight to the characters or a culmanation of the release of sexual tension. If it is just PWP then sure I'll enjoy but afterwards I'm kinda going...well why?

Such as Wild Things...PWP. Sure it was hot, but what else was it? So unnesscessary.
