NSPCC Christmas Appeal?

Just watched the very emotive NSPCC Christmas appeal and would like to know how me donating money stops children getting beaten up at Christmas?
Yeah, I give to a number of charities via direct debit and my question is a genuine one. Just got me thinking. Social services look after kids 'at risk' and have them taken into care etc but not the NSPCC, so what do they do? Give the kiddy a dolly and then leave?
well thanks ape creature - i guess that's sorted me out. i do think it would good if the nspcc did ads relating to all this work tho rather than big eyed sad looking kids (who are actors)
 
I would also like to know that. I used to subscribe to them by direct debit but no sooner had I set up the payment than they wanted me to increase it, so I cancelled it. I still care and would still give to them in the street or through charity shops but I won't be leaned on.
