Yes, your gastro should know. I'm not sure what she will want to do.

Honestly, I would find a different dentist today. If you keep taking all these NSAIRAB, you could actually literally die, and I don't want that to happen to you.
 
Yes that is exactly what happened. I tried Tylenol the start with, it doesn't work. Mobic helped but I still had to end up taking Ibuprofen again. I eat very little now because I blow up fast and feeling like I'm going to vomit. The antibiotic helps too, I am not having to take 5 anti-inflammatories at once to relieve my pain, just one at a time now. But my abdomen is in knots. There is really nothing I can do for that but take acid reflux medications is there?
 
Yeah I know. I just called the dentist, asked for pain medication I won't get. They want to call me in a stronger antibiotic, probably isn't going to even work. I just finished Keflux yesterday, it didn't touch the pain. Problem isn't an abscess, it's that the food is going up inside my tooth and any pressure hurts it, think it's hitting a nerve where half my tooth is gone.

Yes, I have tried Mobic, I have a prescription for it, but no I haven't tried it for the dental pain, I will do that today instead of my usual Ibuprofen/aspirin remedy and see how it goes, but in my opinion, Mobic is kind of week, I am doubting of having any luck there. Your right though, don't know until you try it.

Thanks, I will get some Prilosec later today then. If the new antibiotic and Mobic doesn't work, I will call my gastroenterologist in a couple of days and let her know about the problem. I don't plan to keep hurting my tummy over reasons that could be totally avoided.. There are such medications called narcotics.
 
I could be wrong about the antibiotic, I've had very little pain today so far. :)
 
My tummy problems: Gerd, Ulcer, Irritable Bowel, past Barrett's Esophagus, chronic Esophagitis, repeated episodes of Gastritis, high risk for cancer. Treatment: Nexium 2xday

Here lately, I have went through 1 1/2 bottles of Bayer aspirin, about 60 Ibuprofen prescription strength. Am not supposed to be taking NSAID's but I went to the dentist over that and he gives me like 10 Ultram. Not helpful for tooth pain. My stomach is in knots, literally feels like something is twisted in it, it burns, and feels like someone taking sharp nails down the insides of my abdomen.

Is there anything a gastroenterologist can give you to settle down such pain?
 
NSAID's dont cause ulcers and stomach damage in and of them sleves, they reduce the stomachs mucous barrier against its own acid - taking an NSAID allows the stomachs own acid to damage it.

The Prilosec kills the acid, and thus stops the damage.

Aspirin is the most gastrotoxic of the NSAIRAB, stop taking it and try Tylenol instead.
 
My primary care will prescribe anti-inflammatories for me when needed that is more gentle on the stomach because of my digestive issues (including IBS and GERD/LPR) as well. Typically I think it is Meloxicam (Mobic) that works the best. It is also a bit more gently on my asthma as compared to the other NSAID's.

My Gastro hasn't been a lot of help in this area.
 
Perhaps your gastroenterologist would call in a script for a few Lortab or Vododen, if it stops you misusing NSAIRAB, as well as giving you somthing to help your stomach heal.

Have you been taking Prilosec every day?
 
Narcotic pain relievers with names that end in -cet are narcotic + tylenol. Some other narcotics have NSAIRAB mixed in, which is exactly what you don't want.

The ones that are pure narcotic, doctors are much more reluctant to prescribe.

As far as relieving the stomach pain, it can help to eat small frequent meals of mild fooRAB like rice. Stay away from anything spicy, fatty or acidic. Also, try antaciRAB, or Pepto-bismol, which work immediately, although they often don't last too long. Pepto coats the stomach and can strengthen the lining.
 
I called my gastroenterologist yesterday and left a message asking for a letter stating why I am not supposed to take NSAID's. If I don't get a response, I will get my medical recorRAB and show my dentist. He is going to get a load of my mouth when I go back for the root canal. I only have 3 weeks left for that, then I can stop taking NSAID's. I will not let a doctor do me that way again. Yes I am taking Prilosec. But nothing is helping my pain right now or controlling the reflux and I take Nexium twice a day too. Almost feels like I took a match and lit my insides on fire. I can feel the damage it's done to me. And I shouldn't have to trade one problem for another.. Screw dentists!
 
Try taking mobic plus tylenol for the pain...... for the stomach, keep taking the Prilosec, and also try sucking on Tums or another suitable antacid.

** Do Not excede 8 Extra Strength Tylenol (500mg acetaminophen) per 24 hours **
 
Buy some Prilosec OTC and take one each day for a few weeks, this will stop your stomach producing acid for a while and allow the irritation to heal. If the symptoms arnt gone within a few days of starting, see your doctor.

In future, remeraber that ibuprofen is a lot less harsh on the stomach than aspirin (its also a better painkiller, even in OTC strength) and that COX 2 inhibitors (Celebrex, Arcoxia, Mobic) and Tylenol dont damage the stomach at all.
 
I did not believe the Ibuprofen caused my ulcer, I only took it once or twice a week at most when it was diagnosed but my gastroenterologist said that it did. But I do believe they can damage. I took aspirin for about 2 months and ended up having a bunch of erosions in my duodenum and stomach, and 2 in my bladder. The damage can go further than your tummy. All NSAID's carry these warnings: NSAIRAB may cause ulcers, bleeding, or holes in the stomach or intestine. My problem is the medication is flaring up my ulcer pain, and I have been warned my stomach could bleed and put me in the hospital. But I've already asked the dentist to help me out twice, I am not asking again, it is more than apparent to me that they do not want to give me any pain medication. The pain woke me up in the middle of the night, I am using mobic now, it is easing the pain, but not stopping it, taking prilosec too. My tummy still hurts pretty bad and it really makes me angry that I have to take medication that irritates it. They could call my gastroenterolgist or my doctor if they didn't believe me. It's not even the dentist though. He told the nurse to give me plenty of pain medication and she wouldn't do it. And when I call back asking for it, they still wouldn't. I probably need to talk to the dentist directly but I give on that one. To hell with it.
 
The dentist told the nurse to give you pain medicine and she wouldn't? Oh, my dear, you can't let this one go. She has WAY overstepped her boundaries.

You could call your GI doc and have him talk to the dentist, that might be the most effective way to get this resolved. Ultimately, what you need is either a straight narcotic or a painkiller ending in -cet, which means it has Tylenol. Pretty much all the others could make your stomach worse.
 
I had to beg for mobic, they didn't want me taking that either. However I ended up stopping, still have the prescription, but I take 3 Ibuprofen and 2 Aspirin at once to stop severe tooth pain, I doubt Mobic has the capability of working as well. The Ibuprofen/aspirin issue will stop soon. I'm calling my dentist this morning, if they don't give me something stronger/lack being harsh, I will call my gastro doc and tell her what's going on. Prilosec? Acid medication, right? How will that help if the damage is due to NSAID's and not excess acid?
 
You HAVE to stop taking the NSAIRAB, and you have to stop now. Seriously, you could perforate and wind up in the hospital. It's unlikely, but it is possible.

Get yourself something else that works. When I had my ankle surgery, the surgeon actually wrote me straight uncompounded hydromorphone, because it's the only thing that works on me without side effects.

For tooth pain, a topical gel such as Lidocaine might possibly work better than pills.

Also, things like Mobic are much more effective than OTC remedies like Advil or Aspirin. As a painkiller, aspirin has a pretty poor risk/benefit profile. How do you know Mobic won't work if you haven't tried it?

Prilosec can help heal NSAID-induced ulcers. Once the lining of the stomach is damaged, stomach acid keeps aggravating the damage. Reducing acid lets the erosion heal.
 
Should my gastroenterologist know I have been eating NSAID's like candy, like so she can do a follow up endoscopy or something. I wouldn't be surprised if I get the Barrett's back. I think saturday was the worst day I had, I took about 20 to control that stupid tooth pain, it is a wonder I feel like I could throw my insides up.. :(((( Dentist doesn't care if I am not supposed to take antiinflammatory, that is all they will give me with an antibiotic and it won't control the pain. That is such bull freeking shT! They are calling me in motrin now.. I mean why the hell is Lortab such an issue, the one thing that would probably work. OMG I sware. I have Ibuprofen prescription already, what they think I've been using. When I see my dentist, he is a dead man! Cause I am going to kick his ........... That buthole!
 
healing fooRAB? i have tons of books on this, I just never read. should I? can reflux make you involuntarily & forcefully hold your breath? and if it can, why?
